Got off from work early today to go wake boarding. After landing on my face it was my wife's turn to tube and when i went to go all I go was a click. Tried both batteries and a jumper box. Oh well it's gonna rain all weekend anyway. Ps this starter lasted 3 years

Holy Crap! That looks 30 years old!

30?

You're too kind.....did King Tut have a boat? Man oh man, have you checked the bilge pump lately?
How the heck does that happen? My boat is an '04 and I can eat off the engines....oh well, at least you know what to do.

My engines look new. I have 4 hose clamps on two lines that have rust on them (same motor). Everything else is perfect. Maybe those lines have been dripping on that starter. I told my dad it looks like I found it at the bottom of the ocean. The other starter looks new. I'm super glad it went out bc I go on vacation in two weeks. It acted up last year but when I played with it a little I haven't had any issues since

How are your anodes?

That could cause some of the issues with corrosion I think.

No I tried all the batteries just to be sure. I've seen the anodes on ppls jet pump but where do you mount them on the motor and where to buy them. I already replaced the jet pumps on my boat and ski this year

Looks like typical saltwater corrosion to me. This starter was replaced once before? It's possible the paint and or metal is different than the other starter, thus the difference in appearance.

I would be going nuts if I had this problem. I'd also probably have at least one spare starter on the boat at all times if I could replace it while on the water.

image.jpeg I'll look into it. Did y'all drill and tap a hole on the jet pump to mount the anode to because mine doesn't have the 2 holes. I don't know if you can see in the pic but here it is

If any is curious on how to change their starter the only tools needed are a 12mm wrench for the mounting bolts, 10mm for the 12v line, and if the starter doesn't wiggle out use a large flat head to pry it out by twisting the head between the starter and block (you can see it from up above). 10 mins tops. I spent more time cleaning up dirty hand prints. To find the two mounting bolts just follow the ground wire to the bottom bolt.
