I’m a new owner of a 2017 sx190 and I notice it cranks over 5 or 6 times before it starts. It always sounds like it’s struggling to start but eventually does. I have charged the battery. Is this normal for these boats or does it sound like battery may be shot?

Should start right up. Old fuel? Spark plugs? Battery could be weak, too.

Good point on the fuel. I have no idea how old it is. The plugs were just changed.

Also make sure your battery connections aren't corroded. Mine usually needed a solid cleaning each season. I remember my engine always taking a few pumps before it would fire. I don't think you should be overly concerned unless you have some time and want to start digging into it. One thing I never looked at was the state of my connections at the starter.

by cranking over 6 times, do you mean you it sounds like the engine makes 6 na-na sounds before starting, or that you crank for 3-4 seconds and then stop cranking, and then try again 5 to 6 times? On a cold engine a few seconds to start may not be something concerning. As an experiment, you can leave the key in the on position for a second or two before cranking. That should assure full fuel pressure before you start cranking. Does it do it while cold too? I would not be overly concerned....

it does it every time, whether hot or cold. It also makes six “na na” sounds and starts up. I don’t have to stop cranking. It just sounds really weak, but it does start every time
