So I have a stock 2016 ar 240 love the boat not impressed with the stereo, planning on putting a decent system in within the next year where should I start (guessing speakers)?

Yes. Replace stock with JL mx650's and add two additional 6.5's in cockpit beside driver and passenger seat. I have similar setup but have 8 speakers including my swim platform. Mine are being pushed by 8 channel JL amp and sound is great. Can hear the music loud and clear while cruising at 35 mph

I have the same boat. I think my phone is louder that the stock. I couldn't wait. I bought some JL audio speakers. Around $200 a pair. After I installed them the sound was amazing. Probably all I really needed But.....
The guy at the audio store advised me about this JL audio mhx amp for another $200 that would really make the speakers work their potential. A week went by, hours on YouTube and this forum and figured I could install the thing myself. I only had to cut one wire from the head unit. BLUE Remote wire. The speaker harness that Yamaha uses is for a VW car system best $20 I spent. If something goes wrong with the amp or I want to sell. It will take 15 to bring it back to stock. Here's the kicker I never told the wife. We went out this weekend and my son blew me in!!! It's all a this 42 year dad needed for a system. JL audio is the BOSE of marine stereos. Had to live up to the boats name. IF knot now...

took delivery of my AR240 last Thursday. will be upgrading all speakers and adding 2 jl mx650 cockpit speakers, adding a sub jl m10ib and an amp jl m800. delivery of goodies scheduled for Friday.
Will start a thread to document the upgrade.

I used it to run from the amp to the wire harness for the boat speakers. I didn't have to cut into the speaker wires. The other side of the harness is still used to power the connexts.

oh ok gotcha. I ran all new wires to each speaker in my boat. Wasn't thinking about powering the speakers off the existing wires. Got it.

If you guys want to go nuts Go with the JL M770's. I chose them over the MX and oh my god what a difference (dad has MX650's in his boat)

Nice, would of loved to go that route on mine, but don't think they would of fit the way the seats wrap around the speakers in the Yamaha. Plus making the current holes bigger to fit them would of been a real pain. I bet they do sound great though. How many do you have in yours?

Awsome info and pics thanks for pointing me in the right direction
