So I have a 19 212X boat that I picked up a few weeks ago. I would like to add a bit more bass to the sound system.

I’ve tried to read some of the info here but have zero knowledge of sound systems and the things that I am reading make no sense.

So, is there a way to just add an additional subwoofer?

Sure there are several ways. You can buy a self-powered sub in an enclosure and put it under the seats, or cut a hole in the seat cabinets or other cockpit location and mount a sub with an amp. The amp would get signals from the head unit (Fusion unit at the stern) and you would adjust gain levels as needed to match your system. If none of this is within your scope of expertise, I would recommend you visit a car audio shop and tell them what you want, they can probably come up with a suitable upgrade and install it for you. Or visit a Yamaha dealer and ask. Remember you'll want a marine grade sub and amp for the moist conditions of the water.

I just upgraded my stereo on my 2019 Yamaha 242x with too many things to list here, however, I highly recommend the Wet Sounds AS-10. This is an enclosed sub with integrated amp. I have four Wet Sounds REV 10s on the tower and the sub can still be heard and felt.

+1 for the WetSounds AS-10. Ive installed a handful now at the shop and they dont dissapoint. Super easy install too.

How do the subs do under the seat when the seats are closed. I'm considering a custom mount 10in IB sub, OR a complete enclosed amplified system like this. I prefer to hear the bass more than feel it, so I have concerns about the sound getting out of the compartment, or feeling muffled in general. Really leaning towards the custom mount IB 10in, but like the simplicity of the "all in one" units (like my WS Stealth 10 soundbar)

Theres lots of vents/grilles out there that a guy can use. Just cut hole for it and mount so the sound comes out. If you want to get trick get someone to CNC or plasma cut a vent with your boat logo/brand name.

Mike from Mike's Liquid Audio in NC does stuff like this on his installs. Can powder coat or paint it as well if you want some color. I've gotten led strip and backlit then before too. Will let a lot of sound out rather than just shake the boat.
