Sun Shade

I haven't seen one of those in person. But when I saw that pic on an add I wondered why it was necessary. But then I realized that the biminis have been getting smaller and smaller each year. The Bimini on our 07 Yamaha is probably one of the largest that Yamaha ever made. We love it. Especially because it gets in the 120's sometimes where we do most of our boating. I think that sun shade looks to be slightly larger than our Bimini but I'd doubt that you could go over 10mph with it up. Looks like it would take a few frustrating minutes to set it up too.

Says that it is not for use when underway. Yes...the biminis have been getting smaller. That looks pretty nice as it also shades the front seats....now I just need to convince my wife to let me get a tower so I can buy her this sun shade! LOL

Bought one, just haven't messed with it yet

Like Dennis said, nothing is going to beat the 07 bimimi, especially with the extension.

I do miss the big Bimini my 210 had. I liked the 07 towered boats most because the Bimini was separate and large!

I like it and it looks similar to something called the "Anchor Shade" which I've used for many years.

I find them handy and useful when anchored but must come down before motoring anywhere. I still love my big '06' bimini which can be used at all times (except trailering)

@Julian and @maboat , i agree with you both regarding the '06 bimini. I took measurements of mine before i sold the sx230 it was mounted on. The main bimini was close to 10' long front to back and the extension added another 4' to 5'. Whereas the bimini on my '10 242 ls is about 7' long and no oem extension is available.

Speaking to the sun shade that yamaha now offers, it looks like it would be. A pita to setup, especially alone. If that is the case i would end up treating it like the extension on the '06 sx230, that is i would rarely use it. In the 4 or so seasons i had the '06 sx i only used the extension once a year because it was a pita to deploy and stow. It buffeted quite a bit over cruising speed so stowing it to prevent damage was recommended.

If yamaha charges more for the sunshade than it does for an extension to their 23' boats, i would buy and modify the extension instead. The color would match perfectly and it may be designed such it can be left up when running.
