The wife and I's 10-yr anniversary is coming up in April. She wants to go "somewhere" for it...

Here is the criteria:
  • Tropical/Warm (we prefer the Caribbean or something like it)
    • Hawaii or west coast is too much travel time
  • 4-5 nights
    • Spring of 2016 time frame (late march)
  • Places we have already been (don't want to repeat these)
    • Jamaica
      • Sandals Ocho Rios
      • Sandals Whitehouse
    • St. Lucia
      • Sandals Regency La Toc
    • Mexico
      • Cancun/Bahia Principe Akumal

I would love to go to one of the Sandals in the Bahamas, but they are roughly $4000+ for 4 days and would love to be below that if possible...

So, any recommendations?

My wife and I are big on Cruises. We prefer Royal Caribbean. They have 5 day Cruises our of Baltimore, MD and of course Florida. If you do the Bahamas Cruise they stop at a Private island called CoCo Cay that you can rent Cabana's.

Check out Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. We loved it there and have always wanted to go back. Apple Vacations did a pretty good job of handling the details

Maui. Rent a convertible. Drive up to Mt. Haleakala watch the sunrise. Drive the divorce highway (road to Hana) and hike the trail to Molikini Falls (spelling). Check out all the famous beaches. Maybe one day catch a commuter flight over to big island and check out Pearl Harbor Memorial.

I'd recommend Punta Cana if you want to stay at an all inclusive. You may want to consider the Sun Palace in Cancun. Went there last year and loved it. Adults only and very nice folks PLUS for $4k you could get a whole week including airfare. Mexico is still the best bang for the buck.

St. Martin or Aruba are beautiful. Me and the wife are heading to St. Martin for a week this Saturday.
Went to Jamaica this summer - had a wonderful time with family - but I will never go back!

1 Get certified.
2 Go to Bonaire.

St. Martin ... great beaches... great restaurants ... good "shopping" ... casinos ... activities... NOT your typical Caribbean island.

We have gone several times cancun, iberostar pariasio. Has 4 levels of resort in the same complex. If you stay at the pariasio maya, you also get free spa access to all the therapy jacuzzi tubs.

Agree with comments on St Maarten, you won't go wrong there, plus they have a crazy beach at Maho.
Also agree with Cruising, best bang for your buck, upgrade to a suite or superior cabin, Champagne on your balcony, breakfast delivered to your cabin while you cruise along a beautiful blue ocean, she'll be putty in your hands :winkingthumbsup".

Never liked Jamaica, Gran Cayman nice, Barbados great but how about trying one of the smaller, less well known Caribbean islands, I'm looking to taking my wife to Montserrat, George Martin (record producer of Beatles fame) has a quirky guest house there and some fantastic scenery, active volcano too!

We did St Thomas and St John for our 10 year anniversary a few years ago. It wasn't very expensive and an easy 4 hour or so flight. We also went in april and had perfect weather

She goes where she wants. You go anywhere else. Hell, even stay home with the dogs!

I have 3 recommendations for St. Maarten. I will look into that. Any recommendations for all inclusive resorts (preferably adults only)?

I will also check punta Cana. We looked at that last time we ended up going to Mexico.

Thanks for all the suggestions

My question to you is what do you want? Partying like in Cancun or something quieter? party towns are obvious I guess. The quieter places... not so much. Sure you could lock yourself away in an all inclusive if you like for a week. There are many very nice choices , we have been very happy with the Paradisus resorts.

Punta Cana is real nice. The town around it is not the greatest but there are come nice excursions if you want to get away.

The nicest town I have been to so far (I know you said no West Coast though) has been San Jose del Cabo. This is the sleepy little town everyone flies into to get to Cabo San Lucas. Very family oriented downtown area with nice restaurants and art galleries. Good way to spend time away from the all inclusive. Of course you have Cabo for a get away and all of the excursions. This has been our favorite town to visit of any we have seen.

For me/us, definitely a cruise - and another vote for Royal Caribbean. (Others we have experience with are Holland American - for old folks, Carnival's a big frat party and not what I'd do for an anniversary...).

St. Martin's cool - especially the difference between the French and Dutch sides. Lots to do on that island - though it does get crowded when the honking cruise ships come in. For the record, we've not gone there (yet?) but you might want to stay at Club Orient on Orient Beach... ;)

Orient Beach is a bust! When I was in the Navy our ship pulled in to St. Martin. All of us squids who had been at sea for over a month could not wait to check out Orient Beach. So as soon as we got ashore we head that way. Start walking out to layout our towels and all we see is naked old people, naked over weight people, naked old people with scars, naked fat old people, naked fat old people with scars. You get my drift???

We ended up at a nearby beach that was topless, and that is where all the hot beautiful babys were.

Where's the "disappointed" button...
(Got to say not surprised though...!)

That's the 20 year anniversary.

We did Secrets Maroma Beach south of Cancun for our 10yr. We wanted someplace with a direct flight so we didn't loose time with layovers as we similarly had only 4 to 5 nights. The resort is all inclusive, which we had never done before and it was a great first experience. The only time we left the resort was to go snorkeling and that excursion picked us up right on the beach. For us we didn't want to run around sightseeing, we just wanted to relax and enjoy each other.

We used a travel agent so the cost included everything (airfare & lodging), the only extra costs was the transportation to/from the resort/airport and tipping (a few greenbacks go a long way - your in Mexico). The resort costs varied based on the "package" you purchase which basically equated to the location of the room and quality of the booze. So you can go all out or be very reasonable. The resort is adult only, US owned and very well maintained.

Check it out if interested....
