If anyone has recovery tips let me know. Silver lining, I should be good to go for boating season.

Wow your xray would make a good anti skating ad / psa. I wonder if this will effect you at the airport? By the time they clear you through a standard metal detector all you will have on is your underwear, if any.

I hope the pain was minimal and your recovery fast.

I hope they didn't use an impact to put those in.

Do what the therapists tell you! They were worth every penny my insurance paid out and more! Underpaid experts at getting you back to being awesome!

Wow you did a number on your ankle! Busted the tip off my fibula a few years ago (slipping off my wet dry-docked Yamaha and landing wrong!) but no surgery or screws were required. Long recovery road ahead - even mine took 2 months in a cast to heal and didn't feel 100% for a full year, but you will get through it!

OUCH!!! I hope your recovery goes well.

I have a very similar x-ray somewhere. My only advice has been mentioned - take your PT seriously, do the home exercises religiously. It's much easier now, than later. I skipped out on a lot of mine, and it took me a long time to get full range of motion back.

The looks like an injury that I had from playing hockey when I was in my late teens. I actually recovered better from that injury than I did with strained ligaments in my other ankle. The recovery was long, probably at least a year but I was young then. I was supposed to have the screws and plate for life but the screws started to back out after a few years so I had to have them removed. I was unlucky and got an infection under my cast and had only an ace bandage during the whole healing, I can tell you the crutches, broken ankle and ice don't go together too well. The only good thing about not having a cast was that I was able to move my ankle which helped me get my full range of motion back sooner.

Not sure. Maybe I'll have to bring my Xrays along.

They do things differently these days. I was only in a cast for 1 week. I'm encouraged to move my foot up and down 1 week after surgery. 3 weeks after I'll get the stitches out and can start using resistance bands. 6 weeks I start walking in a boot. 8 weeks walking w/o boot. Still going to require a good amount of PT but I'm ready. My baby is in storage waiting for me!

My only advise is when they say non-weight bearing then that means don't put weight on it...not even a little, not even for just one step. If you put weight on it you will re-break the bones. The bones have to grow around the screws for it to hold. Takes time, be patient, you might feel better in a few day/weeks, don't walk on it. Work that scooter like a boss! Get you a long arm "grabber" thing to pick up the remote off the floor. Amazing how many remotes destroy post surgical healing.
Patients will rebreak bones after surgery and what could have been a good outcome turns into a huge mess because now there is nothing for the screw to hold to. And if you do walk on it and rebreak the bones, don't lie about it, the doctors know you're lying.

Good advise. I'm definitely not going to test it before the doc says its ready. I've been through enough already. last thing I need is more surgery. The scooter is a savior. I was on crutches for a few days and they flat out suck.
