Hi All, I'm new to the forum, and new to boats in general. I'm currently looking for a boat. I have a strong background in the art of wrench twistery having built a number of small time stock cars, wrenching on an AHDRA Drag Bike team, and have even overhauled a badly water damaged and cracked block having mercruiser inline 6 for my brother's Crestliner runabout.

Info I've gained lurking here has already helped me steer clear of a couple lemons. If/when I score a boat, I'll update my status. Thanks again!

:Welcome: to the forum. Great place to be. Keep us updated on what you choose. Be sure to post pics. Good luck!

Thanks Zipper! LOL! A wise man once told me "a boat is a hole in the water that you throw money into"... Well OK, then... Now that I'm old enough to throw a little money down a hole, a boat seemed like a great place to start!

Agreed, I have 4.5 holes in the water. The .5 is a canoe. Some holes are bigger than others. Our Yamaha has been a pretty small hole over the last 5 seasons. Refitting the sailboat looks like this hole.

Good to know! I just hope that with a little TLC, I can have a few fun seasons with one of these older Yamahas. I'm near retirement age, and live in Northern Virginia (not a great place for boating) but I have a summer place in the North woods of Wisconsin which is a magnificent place for boating. So I may be doing a LOT of trailering. But from all I've read, a 2000 lb boat with a pair of 135 hp jets is gonna be a blast on the bigger lakes of Northern Wisconsin. I'll try to be there for BOTH weeks of summer. I may need to convert the cup holder at the helm to a Geritol holder, but, whatever... :winkingthumbsup"

Another disappointing road trip. 5.5 hrs to check out a "mechanic special" LS 2000 advertised as good condition with one locked engine. Well the engine was locked. Apparently MY understanding of good condition and his were miles apart. Rotten ski locker cover, rotten jet cleanout cover, upholstery that's one bouncy ride from exposing the foam in the cushions, and a number of stress fractures (spider web) in the upper hull gelcoat. HiTekRedNek remains boatless. The search continues...
