The latest (2021) high end waverunners and what they cost

I recently visited my local powersports shop for yamaha oil and was surprised to see that they had new waverunners on the floor.
This FX SVHO (Supercharged) Limited (Red and black) is the top of the waverunner line it comes With speakers, a depth/Fish finder, tube, wake board and tow lines as well as a $1,300 premium over the non limited variant, which is also pictured (red and silver).



I am considering buying this GP 1800 HO (normally aspirated) it has the PWC industry’s first auto trimming system which angles the trust nozzle down to push the bow down after slowing down to make a turn , and tilts the nozzle upward once or as the ski gets back on plane. It’s also been redesigned this year so hat it has cruise assist/no wake modes, a reverse lever and connext. I want it but having just purchased a 2021FX HO for my wife, being close to Christmas, even Corona style, and pending a kid moving away to college next year, hopefully, I’m reluctant to buy an mother expensive toy that I will only use on the weekends during Spring and Summer.
The last pic is the out the door price including tax, excluding a trailer or extended warranty. It’s hard to get over the dealer prep/markup fee since I have a strong feeling that it only takes an hour or less for them to attach the steering column, add oil, a battery and fire extinguisher (they don’t even give you a full tank of gas when you buy a waverunner), the rest is just pure profit.

Crazy prices, I can have just as much fun on my Seadoo Sparks that I bought new for 5K each.

Were they really $5k each out the door though? When the spark was first introduced my local dealer was selling them for $6,800 which included an $1,800 markup/prep fee and excluded shipping, tax, a trailer and extended warranty. They had a few ex models on the floor this time around for about $8k msrp which of course excludes everything above. I don’t recall seeing any sparks but wasn’t really looking for them either.

I’m jealous Of my wife’s new ski but not enough, yet, to buy one of my own. I will use her ski when she is not with me which is about 70% of the time I ski anyway. If I would have known about the auto trim feature of the gp 1800 I would have recommend that we get her one instead of the fx but we would not have been able to ride it at the end of last season since none were in stock through October.

Overall though, I agree with you @ripler , I will have just as much fun on my 2006 fx cruiser even without cruise assist, a brake lever and auto trim but it sure would be nice to have those features, especially on long (50 plus mile) cruises.

I got a little jealous when I checked out the Vx limited because it’s basically a NA GP1800R without the auto trim feature but with a lot of other upgrades/extras like 4 cleats, lighted 12v/usb ports and a wider boarding step. Since it’s the limited it also comes with a tube, two rope, wet/dry bag, blue tooth speakers and possibly a depth/fish finder.

still o don’t regret my purchase or it’s timing as I had a great time with it this past season.

be careful with those hulls I have 2 of them and they have a serious chine walk around 20 to 25 mph , the ride is very wet and the water spray I call bird wing spray off the sides of the hull is unbelievable . I agree since my wife’s 2021 fx puts out a lot more bow spray than my 2006 Fx did but my wife’s ski has a dry ride compared to my 2021 gp. That said, we are still very happy with them both but I’m now considering trading one up for a new sea doo switch pontoon boat.

Sometimes they are, I’ve taken pics of other pricing docs that say the $2k+ fee is a prep fee. Prep on a pwc is installing the handlebars, battery, oil and fire extinguisher. The rep. I worked with was cool but brutally honest. We won’t negotiate any of the pricing, fill the tank, or even clean off any scuff marks because we don’t have to. If you don’t buy it there is already a line of people behind you that will. Additionally, Yamaha cancelled half of our orders this year so we have to make our income on the limited inventory we have / are going to get. That said it still hurts to pay the fee. The sales tax of almost 11% doesn’t help. The prices in the pics are not out the door prices as they exclude sales tax and registration as well as of course the annual luxury tax and insurance costs.
