For starters nobody has life jackets on or at least not all of them in such a dangerous inlet and secondly none of those people show be in the bow. I hope that little kid is ok. Horrible choices by this FSH captain.

Man there is a lot of stupid going on there.

If everyone was in the stern the captain would be staring at the sky. Wouldn't be able to keep nose down at that speed

His biggest mistake was going that speed - gotta go faster through that inlet. But no way I'd put the kids in the bow through there seen plenty of idiots sink.

It would be better than dunking the bow and tossing kids in the air.

I agree but. This guy shouldn't even be in conditions like that with anyone on board in a small boat like that

Haulover routinely makes captains of 36+ footers with high freeboard, deep vee bows regret their actions. Even attempting a crossing in low freeboard vessel like that FSH in these conditions is very unwise.

Slack tide, no wind, few boats? Maybe. Day like the day shown? Hell no.

True and there's a big difference between a real captain and just a some yahoo driving a boat.?
Plenty of steering wheel holders out there that don't have a clue.

So the little kid at least had on a PFD. Their biggest problem was all that weight in the front. Had they had some of them in back, and if he had been riding the hump his bow would have been higher and acted as a shield instead of a scoop. Later in the video there is another 210 FSH with 7 people on board, 2 up front, one in the starboard bow seat, and the other on the front CC seat-keeping the weight pretty much centered- and he is riding the hump keeping the nose up and they cruise right on through with little drama.. As you guys have said above, big difference between a Captain and a steering wheel holder.

All of the boats successfully navigating the inlet in this vid have their bow’s high with the exception of one monster that is just powering through there.

What causes these crazy conditions at this inlet? Current? Waterway bottom shape? Traffic?

Three adult morons, not one of them should be running a boat. A 19 to 21 foot Yamaha is probably overmatched in haulout on most days. But the idiot running the boat made it even worse.

The Tide.... a friend of mine pointed to me that a lot of boats will anchor off the inlet and wait for it to subside before making the trek through the inlet. The worst conditions are an outgoing tide and a swell that is coming straight at the inlet.

I watch these channels all the time on youtube. I grew up running the ICW in NC in and out of inlets. I'd say none as bad as Haulover and I did it in an 18ft tri-hull boat. Not something I'd recommend, but I knew the water and knew when to go in/out. In any event most times I just stayed on the ICW and sandbar hopped. Now I'd never attempt an inlet like haulover in anything smaller than a 30' CC with quad yammi 300's or Merc 4's.
