This is what has been keeping me off the water...This

Second year of owning this home, bought it after realizing I could add my Marina payment to my house payment and live on the lake. The first summer we took out 20 something trees anywhere from 2" - 6" diameter. Cleared a ton of underbrush as well.

This past February, we paid to have 14 more trees removed, all 40' or taller and too close to the house or power lines for me to tackle. March we had the side yard leveled and added some retaining walls, sod, and a dry creek bed to manage storm water run off. A bonus of being a member of this forum was I remembered a post about recycled billboard material. So I ordered a 12' x 56' piece of vinyl to line the creekbed. An equivalent epd my rubber liner was well over $500 and the billboard material shipped to my door was under $50!

Thanks! Still have a lot to go (paver patio, permanent firepit, more rock, etc.). But it was awesome to be able to run around barefoot and throw the football with my 9 year old Peyton Manning fanatic!

Cool, are you going to plant any trees/srubs back as they will be your best defense against errosion? And do you have a dock in back, or a community dock/marina with the sub division? I'd love to live on the water someday!

We've been steadily experimenting here in NC with bushes, shrubs and trees that aren't "deer candy" and have been fillig in our front yard with plantings. I should write a thread on it at some point....but I'm going on the lake!!!!!

Thanks everyone! Been a lot of work, but I'm pretty happy, and very over it!

@Julian we are planning on putting in more plants, but I want to get all the hardscaping done first. The dry creek ends in a small pondish area so the water can soak into the ground. I am leaning towards taller ornamental grasses around the back of the pond, and maybe a few pockets of smaller grasses in the creek bed and pond.

This is about the best pick of my dock that I have. Unfortunately during the spring and summer those trees almost totally obscure the dock and boat. The Corps tends to have a tizzy when you touch one of their trees, so I'm trying to come up with a creative solution...

I wish you would! The couple that own the house next door are older and don't maintain their yard, dock, or boat. Besides, it would totally rock to have some jetboaters to hang out with!
