It's a tight fit.......should I be concerned? The installer has not done anything yet, but this is what he suggested. Thanks for any thoughts.

That's where I put mine, but they are 4 1/2".

Several guys put them on the swim deck shelf. That's where I would have gone if not for the tower.

I would have him take the cover off and lay it flat to see how it would really look.

Wow double check behind make sure you have the room

The 15 and 16 242 LS have polk db521 stock but the side cusion is different such that it is countourd around them. My guess is that they used those instead of the db651 which is what is in the rest of the boat and countored the cushions around them for a reason.

Great points. I thought about putting the speakers in the step down, but some people were commenting on the amount of water that hits the lower part of the platform. The speakers are Rockford Fosgate 652 marine speakers which I think are pretty decent. But I'm still worried if they get submerged.

I'll see if they can take a photo with just the cover. Great suggestion.

I'm replacing my speakers with 4 new ones. I was thinking of putting the soon to be extra stock speakers back by the swim platform but now I'm not so sure. We don't need a lot of sound back there so I think the stock would be fine as far as what sound we would want. I'd like to see where @Devildog puts his.

I was originally thinking the same thing Noko since I am also upgrading all speakers. The dealer/installer recommended that I don't put the stock Jensen speakers back there because of the excessive water. They said the stock speakers are fine for inside the boat, but not so much for places with a lot of spray-age, etc. Not sure what stock speakers you have in your AR, but you may want to check on this. If you can do it, awesome. If not, hello Craigslist :)

I was looking at another photo of my stern and photos can be deceiving. I think there is a smidge more room back there than it looks. Especially when you look from the side. The depth calmed my nerves a bit. The only other option is to put the speakers by the handle and I definitely worry about the water coming up over the platform when I come off of plane.

Dont rule out the lower swim deck. 2 seasons and my $60 kenwoods sound good as new. And they do get submerged.

Well, here is what the installer sent back with just the speaker cover to see the placement better. Close, but it looks like it will work. Thanks for your suggestions. Helped me make the decision.
