Togging the key several times to be able to start?

2006 SX110 - I have to basically turn the key back and forth to the start position several times until eventually it cranks and starts. I should note it doesn't try to crank at every turn, once it does try to crank it starts with no issue. It seems I just have to try and toggle the key back and forth several times. Sometimes it's 2 or 3, sometimes it's 10-15. Any suggestions?

Speaking of key switches. I mysteriously lost one of those locking nuts that holds the assembly in place. Outside of using glue to hold it in place, does anyone know where I can get a replacement plastic nut. The one I bought on amazon was slightly to big so I'm still on the hunt.

Check continuity on both sides of the switch.

Since you’re missing a nut, could the entire assembly be spinning behind the dash when you turn the key? Just throwing an idea out there to consider.

Once you have verified that the missing nut isn't your problem by allowing the whole switch to rotate, then listen for a light "click" back by the engine when you turn the key to the start position. If you do hear a click, then it's likely the starter solenoid. Not too bad to replace, but a second set of hands will make it much easier. Search the forum for threads on it, there are several write ups on the process.

Port is missing the nut. Starboard is the key toggle back and forth till it starts. I'll listen for the click, thx.

wait.. if it clicks doesn't that mean the solenoid is working? also, I can only find info on the HO not the 110cc motor. I'm not with the boat at the moment but I don't think we have that black box on the back wall so I wonder where it is.

Oh, I thought you had the old MR-1 in there. My bad. Still could be the starter solenoid, but its location may vary. And even a bad solenoid will usually click. If you don’t hear a click, I’d suspect you’re not getting voltage to the solenoid.

Second vote for the solenoid if the switch tests good. Solenoid tends to get worse when they are breaking.

You'll very likely be able to hear a light "click", or "tick" when you turn the key. If you're able to have someone else turn the key, just follow the noise with your ears. Here's a parts breakdown of where it's at, number 12 is the starter relay

I've been having the exact same issues on mine, I'm still in the midst of troubleshooting. Do you keep your boat on a charger when not in use? I've noticed it happening less now that I keep mine on a charger between uses. Very well could be the solenoid is going out, just have not had the time to look into it.

Yes. My boat is plugged into an onboard charger during the week, when not in use. I haven't noticed that having any effect.

Does it happen while you are out on the lake after sitting, or only the during the first start of the day? Is the other engine running when you try to start? Or do you always start that one first? My fails to start only happened at the dock, sometimes I would idle out on one and then tried starting the dead one, and it'd fire right up. That's what led me to battery, but I'm still hunting to find a resolution.
