My boat has several stickers warnings saying do not tow the boat with the tower down. I can imagine the bumping of the road with the weight of the tower unsecured may damage the tower mounts if towing with tower down. Its just bolted to the fiberglass with a small piece of wood to distribute the load.
I always tow with the tower up in normal position. Be careful of low clearance parking lots and such, you can fold tower to get in those at slow speeds.
I even go a step further. I bought a bunch of bungee cord and cut it into a 12 feet length and added hook connectors to each end. I now wrap it around the Bimini cover multiple times and attach the hook end back on the bungee cord. I have found that the Bimini cover sometimes flaps violently in the airstream and on one occasion actually unzipped itself and and flew off. I no longer have that problem.
