Trailering with wake tower down?

What is the general consensus here? I have never trailered with the wake tower in the down position and have always put it up typically I don’t trailer with the cover on because the trips to the lakes are short. What is recommended up or down or does it not matter?

Only way you could trailer with it down is if you have the tower transport brackets otherwise it would bounce around and that wouldn’t be good lol. Leave it up unless you have some low bridge issue that requires you to have it down.

It depends on the model of your boat. Some manuals state that it must be up for trailering. My 2008 212X came with the transport brackets and for longer trips I put it down, I prefer it to swaying especially since I have tower speakers. Just confirm if your manual allows it.

You would need the brackets. I have a 2019 and it's just plain jane retention cables in the down position. The tower would just bounce around and likely damage something with it down. The shipping cover goes on with the tower down though, so you couldn't use the shipping cover while trailering without the brackets.

Most dealers toss those brackets during the prep so if you don’t have them contact your local dealer to see if they have a pair.

Check this out this whole discussion led me to realize that the little retention cables that keep the wake tower from resting on the steering wheel and being lowered farther than I need it were loose on both sides! Not really loose nuts washers and rubber washer had given way! Crazy there was no Loctite on these either!

Yes add blue Loctite. First thing I did after modding my tower cable spacer.

Does the nut have a nylon insert? I first lowered my nuts a bit to gain a little wiggle room with our garage. I probably should get in there and check.

No nylon insert, that would have helped if they added that for sure. Going to use the blue Loctite.

Any tips to make it easier I have everything I found all the nuts however getting them reattached is a real pain in the ass you have to be a contortionist to get into these compartments and I’m just not that small. You almost need two hands to do this I think

I completely removed them to lower the tower to get boat in garage, tower down for transport would be fine with the shipping brackets I would think since that's how the boats are shipped.

No kidding. I'm 6' 200lbs and just to get in there and situated to lower the washers a bit it was a struggle, and I doubled up on the stupid by doing it alone when no one was around. I managed to squeak out but screaming for help started crossing my mind.

Yup I feel your pain, no problem getting in and doing it, but when time came to get out I had visions of the fire dept cutting me out..lol..rent a midget, sorry I mean short dude

No other way than to shove yourself in there. I'm no little guy either at 230 lbs lol. My tip would be to wear long sleeves to save your arms from getting chewed up.
