I am picking up my new to me 2016 Silverado 2500 in a couple days. I like having a bed cover to keep stuff from blowing out and keeping the sun off of whatever I have back there.
I have previously had a soft cover that I could roll up and the edges hooked under a ridge to hold the sides down, I also have had the one with snaps. There are so many different styles now I’m not sure what I want this time. I like the idea that I could roll it up and use the entire bed, and would also be easy to throw it in the corner of the garage when I don’t have it on.
the hard ones that roll up into the front of the bed are catching my attention because they are more secure but I’m not sure about the bed space they take up.

Do you guys any certain style you love or hate?

I had an automatic roll up on one truck (came on a used truck) that I liked but it broke a few times and it took up a lot of bed space. The second time around I went with a Bakflip MX. It’s very secure and folds in thirds. I do wish it folded in fourths but it does come off very easily and the rails stay on so you can put it back on pretty quickly. It doesn’t take up any bed space either.

I have had 2 of the roll up metal ones. Like previously said the take up space and the break. I put about 30 to 40k a year of miles on my trucks. So basically 3 years of norma driving. The roll ups always broke or tweaked in the last 15k miles.

The last truck i did the one linked below. Way superior in wear. I had a clip break on it yesterday but just the tip. No affect, its locking on the front. As long as the tail gate locks all will be secure. The bad is if have to fold it up and you need full bed space on the top. Its super easy to remove though. The rol ups are a pain to remove and install. So much so that I just started leaving them on when I traded.

Take a look at the BAK Revolver. It is a metal rollup but it rolls on top so you still have all the bed space underneath.

I had a full fiberglass tonneau cover on my previous truck. Looked slick, but man what a pain to remove if you actually wanted to haul something. Pretty much took 2 people to get it on/off.

Now I have one of those vinyl roll up with Velcro on the sides and 4 aluminum bars that lay across the bed. It’s made by weather tech. I like it a lot, and now that I have it adjusted properly, it stays weather tight. A utility knife would definitely slice through it, so security would be secondary.

I prefer the roll up covers. Keep things dry for the most part and doesn't take up much room. They're not as secure as others but keep things out of sight, out of mind

I run a Truxedo Sentry CT on my 2015 Sierra. It's held water out in even the most absurdly heavy downpours. Rattles a little at mid range speeds (40-50mph), and requires the end to be "lifted" or "opened" to shut the tailgate. Otherwise it's great. It's an aluminum slat cover with a black canvas laid over the top of it. Looks like a soft cover, has the protection of a hard cover, and rolls up nicely if you need to put big things in there, or just access the side of the bed.

It's super low profile, and IMO the canvas looks much nicer than the vinyl that other tops use. I got it on black friday for $600 I think. It's 3 seasons old now, and still works and looks great.

This is what I have too (BakFlip MX4) and really like it.

I have no relation to this company, but it's where I bought mine. Figured the site could be helpful to see other options out there across brands. Seems like they have sales quite frequently too.

My last one had the Extang Solid Fold 2.0, is a very heavy duty cover and held up great. Very secure, mostly watertight aside from the most extreme conditions (car wash, tons of heavy rain). The only down side is that it sits on top of the bed rails. This eliminates the need for extra rails, looks more “work truck”. For the current one I wasn’t sure what I wanted so I got a Rough Country tri-fold. This one is definitely not as heavy duty as the Extang, but it does sit flush and is much cheaper (1/2 the price). I looked at the Ford OEM which are a hard cover that rolls up, coovered in vinyl. Looks nice, but they secure with little locking ears all along that could probably be pried up. My favorite has to be the newer Bakflip one, it’s a tri fold solid cover with a low gloss vinyl type covering it. Looks like a single piece when installed, folds like a tri fold all the way to the window, and sits flush with the rails.

I also have a Bakflip revolver. It's awesome. Mine is 3+ years old and still looks like new!

This is what you need. ;)

I've used the Vanish roll-up cover by Access on two trucks and it's been great. The price is good and it seems to hold up well. I commute (pre COVID) 22,000 miles per year at highway speeds and it flexes a bit but never seemed to weaken. It seals nicely and is easy to roll up when needed.

This is what I have. No velcro and easy to roll up. No complaints.

Extang is the brand I had before. So you don’t have to stretch the sides to hook them down? That was my only complaint I had about my old one, it was hard to stretch the sides Over the rail to hook it down, especially in the winter, several times I gave up and let it sit until the sun heated it up before I could get it on.

The top is spring-loaded so the cross-members can hook underneath the catches, but it's not in any way hard to latch. However, I live in TX so I don't have any real experience with this top in winter weather. I believe they are made in MI though.

Extang Solid Fold 2.0 .......f-150
love the look....it sits up higher then most.
Not 100% waterproof, leaks a fair amount in heavy rain.

BakFlip tri folds are awesome. Strong and fairly waterproof. Don’t get too hot to touch And last forever. They are heavy when folding the last section up. I just put the BakFlip roll up on my dads truck. I will get that one for my next cover. Can roll up with one hand and still vary strong and leaves about the same amount of useable bed.

Mine did not leak after I put a piece window insulation on the bed between the cab and the bed. I just stuck the window insulation on the top of the bed to seal it up.
