Hello boaters.

I have 1 year old 195s with maintenance done before winter. Boat was fine 4 times already in the water this season. Buy suddenly I'm not able to accelerate above 6mph and get boat to high rpm. When pushing it start to hesitate with some minor vibration. I also seem to see a blackish exhaust.

Below 6mph 2500 rpm boat behaves totally normally. Could be spark plugs which I didn't change after winter fogging?

Update. The boat is parked at the slip so I'm unable to full check intake. But checking what I can reach from the cleanup port there is nothing in the impeller

I’ve had this happen, minus the black exhaust. I knew I sucked something up but I couldn’t find it through the ports. I pulled the pump and still didn’t find anything. However, it ran perfectly fine after that. I don’t know if something fell out and I just didn’t see it, or what. However, I don’t recall black exhaust so wait for others to chime in before going through the trouble of pulling them. If you’ve never done it before, it’s an easy process.

Thank you for an advise. Yes I recall going via some wood chip debris while on this last outing.

Do you by any chance know where to find an advise on how to pull the pump (video, instructions)?

This is what I watched when I first pulled my pumps. If you have fins, you’ll need to deal with those first. I was nervous at first but now it’s second nature. Takes about 15 minutes once you get the hang of it. You’ll need some extensions for your ratchet. Feel free to call me at 503-381-1450.

Fantastic. Thank you so much, this is great advise. I think this is something I can do when bring the boat to the trailer. I will first try the reverse/kill if it is able to dislodge what maybe inside. Interestingly I wouldn't have noticed this for a while because my son generally does not like high speed and I almost never go fast to be able to notice.

Yes, it is something you can do on the trailer. I’ve learned to spit things out by throwing her in reverse/forward, etc., but when I experienced what you have and couldn’t spit it out, I had to pull the pumps. I personally think the splines on the impeller shaft get out of sync, because sometimes I will pull them and nothing is there but this procedure somehow miraculously fixes the problem. Others say there’s no way the splines can get out of sync.?‍♂️ Anyway, at this point, based on what you described, I wouldn’t be too worried about it. Holler at me if I can help.

Blackish exhaust is running overly rich, sounds like throttle body is having trouble if it does not open properly it can not get air fuel ratio correct for the throttle you are demanding.

Note the video does not work on a 19+ 195. The pump is no longer two pieces making stick clearing MUCH harder as you have to remove the entire assembly all the way to the transom to remove the impeller.

To provide a closure on this. It was indeed a big wood chip stuck on the impeller. I was able to get it out with some acrobatics without removing the pump. This fixed the problem. Thanks a lot for good advice ?
