I bought a 2006 Yamaha sx230 last fall. I've had a few issues to iron out, but for the most part it's been a great boat for me and the wife to get out on the water with. There was no manuals with the boat so much of I've had to figure out on my own. I've had one issue I can't figure out and was hoping one of you might have the answer. In the rear starboard storage bay (beside the engine bay) there is a pump mounted on the rear bulk head. It has a clear hose attached (open on the other end) and the other hose is red and goes through the bulk head into the aft of the boat. Any thoughts as to what this pump does?

First, congrats on the boat and welcome!

Second, I think that Yamaha still has the manuals in .pdf form up on their website. So you can go pull one of those down.

Now, to your question: sounds to me like a washdown pump, but I didn't think they put those on SX230's. So it may have been an aftermarket add. The other possibility is that it is an air pump--some folks plumb those in so they can air up toys from the back deck. A photo posted here would help us know for sure.

I thought a washdown pump but when I turn on the pump (it runs) but no water comes out. Where would the pick up hose find water?

For the washdown pump there is supposed to be a tank back there as well (that you fill up with fresh water before you go out)... Someone may have taken that out to make extra room for cargo? Or because it was leaking...

Would anyone have a pic of that tank or its location? Is it at the pump or behind the bulkhead?

The boat didn't come from the factory with a washdown system, which means if it is a washdown system (fairly likely), the tank and it's location is completely dependent on what the previous owner purchased, and where he decided to install it. You'll probably have to manually track down where the hoses go, and figure it out the old fashioned way.
