Used 2020's at dealers already

Hey everyone. Been creeping for a year, decided to join.

First, many on this site have a wealth of knowledge. I have learned a lot during my boat search. Thank you to all who contribute and share.

I am however extremely frustrated. I have looked within a 200 mile radius for quite some time to try and find a 2017 - 2020 AR240. I looked at my local dealers website today and seen multiple used 2020 models (no AR240's) already for sale with 6-10 hours on them for the same price (or more) as a new 2021 of the same model.

I understand there could be several reasons, especially with Covid and all its rippling effects, of why someone would give up their boat already, but I cant help but feel that since yamaha offered 6 months of no payments, that some just went and snatched up all the boats with no real intention of ever making a payment, only to use them for the summer and resell. That leaves customers like myself, who plans on keeping their boat for years, still waiting..

Anybody else feel the same??

I thought about a250, but I wanna wait a couple years for all the bugs to get worked out.

IMHO there is going to be a lot of used boats on the market for one reason or another by spring. I am thinking there could be some decent deals out there. Some people will be taking a bath I am sure.

Oh I am sure people will.. Hopefully dealers are smart enough to price accordingly and not pass on peoples bad financing to others. Lol

Im being as patient as possible, but still bummed I missed a whole season. Spring feels like forever away.

Dealers will price them for as much as they can get, which would be accordingly. Whatever the market will bare. Dealers typically wouldn't buy a boat over market, so if people are underwater, unless they are bringing cash, the dealers most likely won't be selling it or purchasing it from them.

True. It would be ridiculous for them to think they could sell a 2020 AR240 for more than a 2021 AR250. But, anything is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. Ha

Used one with very low hours, but still used and asking price is the same as a new 2021? Dealers are still asking high prices IMO.

This is supply and demand in action.

Want a boat to take home TODAY? Pay $xxxx.xx more than the one you have to leave a deposit on and hope it comes in quick enough to use this year. The current demand for boats is significantly higher than supply, so when you have one IN HAND, you have a better position to leverage in the current market.

No offense, but it's clearly not worth it to you, I bet they still get them sold at near the price listed. The market is hot currently.

Yes, post your location. As the dealers up my direction, are pricing used high, but they also are comparing to the cost of storing that boat now for winter. As on our lake yesterday, I saw plenty of open lifts and even lifts and docks pulled out for the season. Our water temp has dropped almost 20 degrees!

Northern boat dealers will take cash in hand.

That is at least 3-4K cheaper I would think than a brand new one after freight/prep fees. That's not a bad deal IMO

Im in central Indiana.

Im not saying that a boat couldnt be found, but not one within a reasonable price. Im not getting suckered just to get on the water. I want a fair deal just like the next guy. I seen a 2020 AR240 listed for $63000 last week. Thats more than a new 250, and I dont have freight but still have 7% tax to add regardless. Freight and prep can get dropped when buying new, and if not, its only about $1500 at the local dealer. Not to mention its depreciated 5-15%.. And Im not paying for used life jackets. Lol

Im sure people ARE willing to get taken, but not me. I have more patience than that. Plus I just keep banking what Im not spending on payments.

I'm also in Indianapolis, there really isn't a point to buy right now anyway. It's halfway thru September in Indiana...lol. wait until the dead of winter and use the bargaining power then

Hi there Crob83, how you doing? It seems that there are a few of us here on this thread from Central Indiana. Hello Hoosiers!!
Anyway, I understand your point, but in my mind, used is used and I can't pay for a used the same price as the Yamaha website lists for a new 2021 (I mean, brand spanking new). They are probably counting that someone from the south will buy it. As you guys mentioned, right now, boat season is coming to an end, the local gas station at the marina stopped selling gas already this weekend. I sold my pontoon in 48 hrs. after placing an add on Labor Day weekend and I will now wait until next Spring, why I would buy now and worry about a boat over winter and off season costs? Unless it's a super smoking deal, I will just seat back and see how the market will move. Worst case I won't have a boat right away in April-May but that's OK with me. A used boat (even if it has 10 hours), should be a $1K to $2K lower than a new asking price IMO.
