anyone have a used steering gear or know wear i can get one? i only need one part from it i hate to spend $250 on a whole unit.

They made it for Yamaha. They might be able to sell you the part you need. At minimum their parts are less expensive than through Yamaha.
 
just spoke with them and they advised me to go back to yamaha haha. it seems like they are in many types of boats if i could find a used one would be good.
 
If you look in their catalog you may find the part number.
