Merry Christmas!!

I'm thinking about doing a minor upgrade, basically changing the 4 stock speakers out for upgraded speakers and maybe an amp....

Im looking for any recommendations on what to buy without spending a whole lot.

Tryna keep it simple and cost effective...thanks in advance.

I have heard the Polk speakers are a great budget option.

I have an Alpine power pack I am trying to get rid of, if you just want a basic amplifier. It wires in with the radio so no amp kit needed.

@adrianp89, do you have a little info on the amp, how much you looking to move it for?

Polk DB651s are a no brainer at $50 a pair, very good amp option for 4 DBs is the Clarion XC1410. Severl members have posted good write-ups on the XC plus DBs, let me know if you need links.

It is the Alpine KTP-445A. It is VERY similar to the XC1410 mentioned above. (45watts x 4 and 2 ohm stable) I think the biggest difference is it has no on-board crossovers and it does not have a low-level input.

At it's core it is plug and play with an Alpine stereo, but if you cut off the plug that would go into an Alpine radio, it is just a basic install from there (power, ground, speakers).

I am looking for $60 shipped.

Swatski, where can you get the Polks for $50? Thx
It appears I lied...
But but but I swear I saw it somewhere! LOL
Since they are now switching to DB652s and had the 651s on sale with ridiculous discounts over already low low prices.
Regardless, these are still really inexpensive (for what you get) - even at $60!!!

Polks are what most people do for a modest upgrade. The next level most do is JLs.

I put in a JBL marine 4 channel amp in my last boat and was happy with it. Put in a Wetsounds HT4 in the new boat... Happy too.

There are lots of threads linked in the FAQ with info on peoples upgrades.

Question is, are the 6.5" speakers the, or as close to, a drop in replacement of the stock speakers on a yamaha boat??

Yes

Ok...so I ended up going with the Polk mm652’s....now, the amp? Is the clarion a good choice? Or should I look elsewhere without breaking the bank?

I replaced the factory speakers with the mm652 and absolutely love them. I have a JL Audio 5 channel amp. Powering the mm652's as well as my sub.

This offseason I'm also adding wetsounds 420 EQ, wetsounds rev 8 Tower speakers and a wetsounds 4 channel amp the power the tower speakers.

Polk amps 4000.4 or 5000.5 had some friends use those they've been very happy with them.

I went with the Clarion XC2510 as it had the 5th channel for adding a sub. You could just drive your new four with it now; but when you decide you want another small project, adding the sub would be easy and would not require mounting and powering a second amp. I am very happy with mine so far; but there are lots of choices. I just wanted to keep things simple and within reasonable cost. The addition of the sub (yes, even my small 8”) makes a big difference and saves your new 652s the low frequency abuse.

I chose the NVX JAD900.5 and have been pretty impressed. I have it powering 4 polk db651s and polk mm series 10" sub. It doesn't blow you out of the boat but has more volume than I need and great sound.

What wire gauge should I be using btw?
looks like I'm going with the polk pad4000.4 amp

NVX and Polk share the same internals... cant go wrong with either. Use 4 gauge wire.

I wasn't aware of polk and nvx sharing the same internals...is there any benefit to one over the other?
