VHS radio

Do you guys carry VHS radios in case of emergency? If so, what brand/model?

Also, is that something you leave on at all times and listen to all the chatter? I usually anchor and let the kids swim while listening to music, I don't think I would want to hear chatter waiting for weather alerts....

so is it a good idea to get a $50-$70 radio, throw it in the glove box and listen to it only if I see a threat of a storm?
