I have a couple of small issues with my new boat.

1. The knob fell off of the remote control on the swim platform, I might have used it once, here is an image, does the warranty cover this issue?

2. I removed my bimini cover and I noticed one of the ratchet straps are ripped, warranty claim?

I called polk about my knob getting tacky and they sent me a new one fast and free.
Dont say you lost it say the same thing that its melting like mine was

I can't tell what is ripping on the bimini cover? Can you explain?

Its the strap the ratchet is connected to. In the image below, the ratchet end is labeled 1 and the other end of the cord has a male snap piece, that's labeled 2. The entire strap is like 3 feet or so. The strap is sewn to the ratchet, that sew is what is broken, literally hanging on by a thread.

I don't even care much about warranty or not for the bimini, I just want to buy a few of those ratchets so I can fix my top.

They don't list the straps for the bimini here

Called my yamaha dealer, apparently you would have to buy the entire cover to replace one of the ratchets, wonderful.

I am going to go to a canvas shop and see if they can repair it first....

As far as the knob, I am going to call Polk and tell them it just fell off and I used the thing maybe twice.

If it's under warranty then it seems Yamaha would have to replace the entire cover for free.

I'm not sure, do you guys think this is something I should try to get repaired by yamaha? I will stop by the dealer with my cover and ask them again. If it's under warranty, do I have to go through a dealer to get a replacement?

If you think you need to take it somewhere to get it repaired then yes. A dealer would probably need to facilitate the replacement.

I don't think just cause it's under warranty, means that Yamaha would replace it. If it's repairable they'll have the dealer send it out to be repaired.

It all depends on how much your time is worth and cost to repair. If you have a canvas shop that can just cut and reattach the strap real quick and cheap I wouldn't mess with going to the dealer. It'd be a lot quicker and get you back on the water faster.

that's my feeling at the moment, I was going to take the top to the canvas guy today but I ran out of time. I'll update the thread with a pic or the cost for the repair. Seems more of a hassle to get it replaced via warranty.

As far as the knob, the dealer said that they would actually replace the entire system over the knob, so I am going to call and get a new knob sent...

I'm only going by what the OP said the dealer said "Called my yamaha dealer, apparently you would have to buy the entire cover to replace one of the ratchets, wonderful." Seems the dealer might be a little more proactive and call Yamaha and give options. Either it needs to be fixed or replaced. It is either under warranty or not. If someone wanted to see if it was an easy fix and not mess with it, then great.

I might ask the dealer again, I'll probably stop by with the bimini and see what they think. I didn't buy the boat there so I don't know if they are less likely to help, haven't seen that so far.

I read as he called the dealer asking if he could only buy the ratchet, in which the dealer is correct. Yamaha doesn't sell just the ratchet, you'd have to buy the cover. Either way for as cheap of a fix this would be to have a canvas shop repair, just fix it with little down time and get on having a great summer.

Got it. My point was that if the ratchet is covered under warranty and the only way to get the ratchet is for them to provide the whole assembly then so be it. Warranty is warranty. If someone was so inclined to go for a cheap fix and not involve Yamaha then that's OK too.

They replaced mine rather than repair it for a fraying issue. I dealt directly with the top manufacturer (should be on the canvas tag) rather than with Yamaha and the details are in the link. I would certainly fight for replacement.

I'm not arguing that it wouldn't be covered. My point is that warranty doesn't mean replace, they can fix it under warranty rather than replace it. Having it fixed doesn't mean it'd be a "cheap fix" but rather could be the better route.

If it's fixable, then I would let them bring it on. If it's a better route with them paying for it and more convenient then even better!

I brought the bimini to a canvas shop, literally took 5 minutes, very easy to fix. The guy said no charge, I gave him 15 bucks to cover lunch or whatever.

He said if that fails (probably won't), he can easily make a new strap, he has all of those same parts in his shop.

He also said when getting canvas work, going through the dealer will usually increase the fee by 15 - 30%

Go to the canvas shops directly to save a few bucks.

So I just called Polk (long wait times) and Polk told me they didn't build this stereo, it's actually a company called ASA Electronics who just pays Polk for their name, BTW, I find that to be very lame.

Polk gave me the number to ASA electronics, I called them, they wanted the stereo model number. I gave them PA4A (name on the remote). The lady on the phone said these are not normally installed on the swim platform (I am guessing that is also the model of the stereo). After I told her this remote is indeed on MANY boats, she took my info and said she will call me back.

She is going to look around for an extra knob? Sounds very amateurish to me.

My dealer said if we go the warranty route, we are replacing the entire stereo. I really don't care, just want the stupid knob fixed.

Maybe I should glue the thing on? After 10 hours it feel off and I never used it.
