I have owned a 2006 AR 230 for a little over a month. I love the boat and have not had any issues until now.

I launched boat and got on plane doing about 40, and I suddenly stopped, and the wake washed up on the boat. This is after 5 minutes. Thought nothing of it tried going back on plane but boat wouldn't go over 10 mph. Stopped, checked the engine compartment, and the water was almost at the top of the engine. The ski locker was pretty full, too. I turned the bilge on, and the water wasn't draining. I found out the bilge hose busted. Drained more than half of the water from the engine compartment. Then I returned to the dock and pulled the drain plug and the water drained out. We taped the busted house and went back in the water for 3 hours and in that time, I noticed a little water in the engine compartment, but nothing to make me worry, even though I never noticed water in there before. Heck, never even turned bildge on until today.

The drain plug was tight and it does not appear to be a bad scupper valve since we operated the boat for 3 hours and did not flood it. What else could have caused that much water to get in engine bay in the first 10 minutes but not for the remaining 3 hours? Also should bildge turn on automatically?

Bilge should run automatically approximately every 5 minutes sensing if there is water. You really can’t tell from the outside if your plastic scupper has a crack in it. Check your intermediate bearings as well, those can gush and spray water into the engine bay quickly if the seals are bad. I know you taped up your bilge hose but obviously you should probably replace the entire hose, there may be cracks in it you can’t see!

Man that's scarry stuff..................Hearing story's like that makes a second bilge pump is in order with an auto switch.

Glad you got her back to the dock without the giving the abandon ship order.

Those oem plastic scuppers can be cracked and flex..if you have the oem one that should be at the top of your list of things to do / replace.

When you say the wake washed up onto your boat after stopping suddenly …how high did it get up on your boat? Did you check the clean out tray and the clean out access well / tubes for broken hose clamps and make sure nothing came apart there?

When stopped the wake the boat created rushed up onto the back of the boat. I forgot to mention the drain out plug was not seated correctly and it took me three tries to get it. I thinking of buying locks for them.

This is why the bilge pump should be tested occasionally through the season and whenever the boat is in the water the bilge pump switch should be on. The pump will cycle every two minutes or so seeing if there’s water and if not it’ll not run but if there is a load on it, it will run until the load is gone.

When you say “drain out plug”, I assume you mean the clean out plugs. Make sure those are in correctly. I give mine three strong tugs just to make sure. Get the EZ locks too as you’re suggesting. I would also suggest checking your oil to see what that looks like. Make sure it’s not milky looking.

Yes, meant clean out plugs. I'm checking the oil shortly. Thanks.

My guess is, since the plugs weren’t secure, water has been shooting up the tube into the area below the hatch and then draining into your transom area, which can then go into the engine compartment.

Umm …yeah that’s probably your source of water, and if the clean out tray is not sealed there was a lot of water actually being forced past the tray into the aft bilge. Be sure and spray your clean out plugs with silicone to make them easier to operate.

Also, when the bilge pump runs in auto or manual the switch should light up red to indicate it’s running.

Thank you I will focus out that. I just bought a clean out plug rebuild kit.
