2015 AR192. I lost power (10 MPH max speed) last time I had my boat out, luckily I was near the slip. When I tied the boat up and was cleaning up, I opened the seat to cut off the battery and that compartment was half full of water. I opened the engine compartment and the water was almost to the top of the engine. I turns on the bilge pump and waited for it to drain. Once the bilge was mostly drained, I started the engine and water is spraying into the bilge from the aft of the engine quite quickly and there is a bit of a clunking noise coming from the area. I turn off the engine and no more water coming in. I had to let it sit over night as I did not have the trailer or tow vehicle with me. I came back the next day (today) to recover the boat and no new water in the bilge. So it is only taking on water when the engine is running. I’m sure there is something wrong in the prop shaft area but I am hoping someone has a place/direction for me to start my troubleshooting.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Probably a blown hose clamp or an split hose. Open up the rear deck and take a look.

Check the oil for water, if it got that high there's a chance some got in the engine. If so, buy some cheap oil and do some run / flush cycles.

I believe 2017 and earlier boats should always be run with the bilge pump switch on? Check the owner's manual.

you may have to check ALL connections of water cooling just in case, start engine while you have engine bay over open to see if any splash within ( i guess may not otherwise your ECM and fuses may blown long ago) , if not most likely its under wet storage, that will be easy to identify but bit pain job to work on

The cooling water runs through a multitude of places (intercooler, engine block, exhaust) so you'll need to figure out where the leak it is coming from and fix the problem. There is a good chance you got water in your engine. pull your spark plugs, disconnect the lanyard from the safety kill switch, and then turn the motor over a few times. If you see water shooting out of the spark plug holes then keep letting it turn over until it stops. Then you will need to change the oil a few times. Change it. Run the motor a little. Then repeat a few more times. And do it yesterday.

No water in the engine thankfully. Oil was just changed at the beginning of the season and it still looks fresh. Spark plugs look good too. The water looked like it was coming out from the aft side of the engine around the shaft area. I took off the shaft cover and watched the area with water running through the flush port and did not find anything with the engine running or not. I took off the jet pump And ran the water directly in the cooling channel coming from the jet pump. Still no leak to be found. Any other suggestions?

I've found using your phone (hopefully a new water resistant model) to take video is the easiest way to hunt something like this down. Turn on the camera to video, turn on the light and stick your hand slowly into all the areas in the bilge. Point at the hoses and slowly trace along them. Then replay the video and eventually you will find your water source.

Another trick I've not tried, but another member suggest for water leaks is to use baby powder (but sounds messy to me). If you sprinkle it, it is quickly apparent when the water is running from.

did you take the manhole inspection cover off, the one in the cleanout hatch that allows you to look down at your water box (and actual bilge area)?
#7 on this link

Probably as stated above you had a hose clamp come off, you should also watch buckbuck's video in our FAQ tab of "how the cooling water flows" it's for an mr1 engine but it's the same concept as yours,

I think you are on the right track. An oil seal may have been dislodged from over greasing allowing water to enter along the intermediate shaft. That is my first guess.

I’m having the same situation now. I’ll try and post a video. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Run it in a hose & check for leaking cooling line if the water is warm. Make sure that when your boat is in the water the bilge pump switch is in the auto setting.

@Babin Farms Thanks for responding to my bad advice.
I’m like you, just trying to help with just a description, picture & not actually seeing what’s going on. Most times we’re giving it our “best guess” with a shot in the dark when trying to help. FYI I’m in awe of your in depth knowledge of these engines and have learned quite a bit from your posts. Keep up the good work?

My better half inspired me. "Fix it or lose it!"

Did you ever find your issue? I have a 1992 rinker 236, it has a 7.4l but It won't go over 3k rpm at w.o.t and has water spitting into the bilge area looks to be from behind the motor, I took it out of the water drained the bilge then hooked it to muffs but when I started it I couldn't get any water to spray but I only ran it for a few seconds scared to burn the impeller up, any advice will be appreciated, thanks
