Had thin shorty wet suit for a few year and managed to do water sports into late September. Upgraded to a dry suit and hoping to maybe get a few more weeks out of the year. How cold is the coldest water you have voluntarily done water sports in?

Scuba diving in a full wetsuit in Bermuda in the winter. Not sure it was 70, probably 72...but it was cold! It warmed quickly after the first rush, then got cold soaked in less than 20 minutes. A dry suit is a different animal I am told but have never used one. I guess it cuts the wind as well.

A dry suit makes life much more manageable as long as you can keep it dry inside and out. Used to do dry suit water skiing in Colorado in November. We would wear wool long johns and fleeces for our insulation. The good news is that you have the lake to yourself. The bad news is that half of the lake is covered with ice. Even on a warm day the cool or the water chills you in the boat. A hot water shower is necessary to warm up hands and feet.

I'm guessing that you won't be going THAT cold.

007, I have dreaming and talking to Mrs buckbuck about getting a drysuit from Wakemakers. Which are you looking at?
I am willing to try 80 degree F with a drysuit. :)Maybe lower. I look at the river this time of year and see no one on it. What a great opportunity to get some long surf runs in. Are you looking at boots also?

O'Neill Boost. Much better deal on Amazon.com when I bought. You can find sizing charts online. Maybe you can get down to 70 with it;)!

Ps - had boots for scuba, bought hoods and gloves. I figured if I'm gonna do it...

I remember donning my friends dry suit to go jetskiing in the ocean. Don't know how cold it was but judging by how cold, discolored and numb my hands and feet were (the dry suit doesn't cover them), it was pretty damn cold. I also recall needing to spray the ankle and wrist cuffs with silicone to get the suit on. If it is ever so cold that I have to put another dry suit on I'll just pass until it gets warmer.

I went in March this year with no Wet Suit....when i fell I thought I was going to die...61deg River..
I bought a WetSuit when I got home ( Short sleeve type)

We have done tubing and knee boarding on lake Michigan when it was 63 degrees, in swim shorts. I use to have a rubber type drysuit for riding wave runners in april, I wont fit in it anymore but was thinking of getting a baggy dry suit.

70... and that is close to the average water temp here December - February

My home waters rarely get much above 70, even in August.

As a kid, we used to put the pier in over Memorial Day weekend. Usually was low-mid 40s water temp. I remember one year it was 39! We would run in to the water, drive one post in, run out. Don't miss that...not at all.

It was 65 degree water last Sunday for me. I had a full set of under armor on and a 3mil shorty wetsuit over that. Jumped in 5 times for a combo of surfing wakeboarding and slalom skiing. We were the only ones on the lake getting into the water. I was still shaking cold a few times. The air temp was 65 too. If the weather holds to the current forecast I will be out there this weekend again.

70 and no higher than my 'boys'. If there's a chance of total submersion it's gotta be 75. Yeah, 13 years ago I worked outside all winter long wearing jeans and a sweatshirt in sub freezing temps. Crazy what the subtropics will do to your body.

We went on the Mississippi and the water was 65 2 weeks ago and we had the shorts type wetsuit. It bad at first until I started surfing then I was fine the rest of the time. Mark @sx210owner declined the suit and he was shaking the whole time ! Lol
