I am putting the boat away for the season and while changing my oil I noticed the "second" air filter on both engines look melted.

2012 SX 210

Pictures!
Second air filter is the metal mesh that is your flame arrestor. If it is actually melted you have serious issues.

Sorry I thought I did attach a photo.
It's weird it's on both of them.

The sx 210 uses the mr-1 non-ho correct? Can you show where this piece was located on the engine?
I am thinking it may be a different intake than my engine. I have individual throttles for each piston. I guess i need to see it. Perhaps find a knowledgable member nearby to check on it?

This is the air intake. The rubber grommet on the front of the air filter canister.

This is the canister that houses the air filter. The bottom grommet is what is melted , on both engines

That's the duck bill that's "melted". Seems to me that somebody used something in the engine compartment that wasn't good for rubber products and it effed up the molecular composition and looks melted. It's probably sticky if you touch it.

Perhaps someone tried some starting fluid at some point?

Nope, no starting fluid. I have sprayed fog oil in there with filter and lid off.
(Now I remove pipe from throdel body and spray directly into)

Yes it is sticky to touch.
Is it an important part, is it replaceable?

That's not an air filter. It's a drain valve on the bottom of the air filter end cap. It's there to allow dust or liquids to pass but you have to manipulate it by hand to pass dust. We have them if you want to replace them. Call 972-221-9767 and ask for Chris in parts. He can send them to you for retail plus shipping.

They're right. They've reacted to something, could've been water of all things. Have seen the sea water pump bracket/brace for Volvo's do the same thing. Could be temperature cycling mixed with a contaminant. ??????????????? You know?

The fog oil is the culprit!

@Olin Forgive me if you said it before.... Who is "we"? Do you work for a dealer?
