I purchased some Rev 8's for my boat and they are ok. I'm a little disappointed that they do seem to distort with any song that has base comes on. Specifically the 'Old Town Road' song by Lil Nas X (my kids love this song). I always have to turn the volume down to about 1/2 when this song comes on. Not to mention that the 8's really don't have much base in general.

So, I was thinking about replacing them with Rev 10's if they go on sale for Christmas. Think they will handle the distortion better and provide more base?

Thoughts on other speakers?

Speakers generally don't distort due to lots of power unless overdriven and the voice coils bottom out. Typically distortion is due to amplifier clipping where the amp runs out of headroom power and clip the waveform causing audible distortion. They can handle 200+ watts.

What kind of amp are you using to drive them?

I have some questions and some insight..... First of all, you should not expect much bass from a REV 8....or REV 10 for that matter. Bass should be left to subwoofers. What does your set up consist of? What kind of amps and do you have a subwoofer. If you do not have your REV's running with a high pass filter (generally most amps have these) you need to switch it on NOW! They need to be crossed over at around 80/100hz just like your interior speakers.

I think you mean the high pass filter needs to be on. If the low pass filter is on that will cause the bass. @Cleveland Steamer do you have a wet sounds EQ? That will go along way to tuning your tower speakers as well.

Yep sorry..... It was almost bedtime for me.... High pass filter needs to be On. Edited post

Not to be rude but distortion is typically a result of installer error. Either clipping or wrong xover settings, as both mentioned above. It could be due to a piss poor recorded song - while I can't stand the song - it wasn't recorded in someones basement and handed out at the gas station lol.

With an 8" playing mid duties, I would typically crossover around 63hz with a 24dB slope. For high power/high volume I would probably start at 80/24 and go up or down from there. I don't have personal experience with the Rev8 so can't really say much more than that.

I recently installed (read..paid to have installed) four Rev 10 tower speakers and one Wet Sounds AS-10 enclosed sub and I highly recommend the Rev 10 speakers. The sound is amazing. In fact, two Rev 10s would be more than enough for most people. I would also recommend adding the enclosed sub. The amps I used are the Wet Sounds Sinister SDX-4 and Sinister SDX-6. There is no distortion.

I too am running for rev 10s and have been doing so for several years. I'm curious, what amp do you have running your rev 10s?

Two Wet Sounds Sinister SDX-4 bridged.

680W per rev10? I like it. I was looking at getting 2 sdx-6s to run 4 inboats, 4 rev10s and a subwoofer. It would supply 575w to the rev10s, but i thought that might be overkill. Glad to see they can handle 680W.

Nice! I like Overkill. Gives you plenty of head room. My 4 rev 10s are running off an SD2 to so they're getting about 300w each. Getting ready to sell the boat so trying to plan out my new system now
