I am a relatively new member of this site and I occasionally see references to the "other site" or the "old site", what are these folks referring to?

Here’s some reading material.

And, a bit about this forum.

https://jetboaters.net/threads/welcome-to-jetboaters-net.227/

All well before my time, but I know I see great value in this community. I’m not a Facebook user, but spend nearly as much time here as others spend on Facebook. Always something new to research or threads to follow in the interest of getting a little smarter and learning more about my current favorite hobby. Not to mention getting to know some great “internet friends” along the way.

The first time you talk the family into attending a larger gathering of your Internet friends, it is definitely an experience. :) neither my wife or I had any idea what to expect, but we loved it and the kids had a great time too.

YJB... A site that I quickly quit using after discovering this one;)

Thanks... I actually setup an account over there prior to here but never posted.

The former home for many of us was Yamahajetboaters, I was an admin/moderator over there until I discovered the owner was banning people in the background on his own initiative and without any discussion/moderation. It was his site to run as he pleased, but many of us spent many hours supporting and documenting things for the "community" there, only to find that members were being treated poorly. Also, the site is stuck an old version of phpbb and the owner won't ask for help to upgrade, so its sort of stuck in a time warp. So we started a new site with the best tech we could find (at the time) and set it up to be run by committee so that no one person could run amok, and that we were transparent with our members.

We aren't perfect here. But we do our best to create a place where we all can share our love of boating and all sorts of other off topic things too!

The "old site" (YJB) had a ton of relevant info, but it is slowly becoming less relevant as much of it is covered here now since we've been online for 4 years now. That said, we'd love to make sure YJB's content isn't lost and we welcome members there to join here, but the reverse is not true. You cannot post our URL over there (or that of many competitive sites), and if you do so, you risk being banned. We used to post comparative activity metrics for both sites, but stopped that years ago as it was clear activity over there had dwindled to a trickle.

For example, right now there is one member online on YJB (AtmOspher), 9 guests, and 2 bots (bots are search engines indexing their content. The more bots can be indicative of the amount of data needing indexing).

In total there are 12 users online :: 3 registered, 0 hidden and 9 guests (based on users active over the past 5 minutes)
Most users ever online was 116 on Wed Aug 14, 2013 4:19 pm

Registered users: Atm0spher, Bing [Bot], Google [Bot]
Right now Jetboaters.net metrics are that we have 32 members, 47 guests and 17 robots

I think the metrics speak for themselves, but draw your own conclusions. :) I'm biased....but hope this helps....

I signed up before, and quickly realized that place is a deserted waste land and only stay on here now. What do they get like 1 post every few days?

I joined both sites on the same day. I asked the same question on both sites. It was answered here within minutes, but has yet to be answered on the "other site".

:meh: all the drama came before I joined either. I poast on both a bit. Lots of good info @yjb still. Ecspecially regarding the older two strokes.

I got a headache just reading the title of this thread. :hurting:

I joined YJB about a month or two before this site was launched. I knew something was up when all the members posting the most relevant info seemed to have disappeared with no explanation. A quick google search during a group buy processing shut down :rolleyes:brought me to this site a few days after launch. I'm sure glad I found it, otherwise I never would have attended my first Shelbyville, unlocking a friendship aspect of boating I never would have thought possible!

I was pretty active on the old site, and was one of the inaugural members here. I don't think I've ever been back, even out of curiosity.

I’ll second that, which keeps me going back and forth.

Unfortunately, very little new 2-stroke content is being posted anywhere. Which just means these boats are the most reliable.

Where’s my fire suit?

98% of the brain trust from the old site is now here. Also, no cencorship, no politics, no bickering & no B'S. Just a good brotherhood of boaters with the common goal of helping each other.
