does anyone know what grease that they use for the wheel bearings? I'd hate to have an issue from mixing incompatible grease.

I've just used plain wheel bearing grease. If you are worried about mixing two types, I'd clean and repack the bearings. If you want to clean the bearings, use gas, WD40 or any solvent. Make sure you dry the bearings and then re grease. There is probably a YouTube video on how to do it.

I bought some marine grease (CRC). Looks to be the same grease (sea foam green in color). Gave a couple pumps into each bearing buddy to get ready for the trip. Is there a measurement of how far the spring is compressed when the right amount of grease is pumped in?

I usually just pump it in until clean grease is coming out.... You should be able to tell if it is full or not....
