When you are one with the boat and the boat is with you

You know those days when you have full control of the boat and pull off some sweet low speed moves? I had one of those days this Saturday.

We arrived to the restaurant and the courtesy dock was full (1). I decided to back into the gangway (2) to let my friend to pick up the food. Did so with such smoothness that the admiral commented on it. I then went around to another courtesy dock (3) and it was also full. Very little space to turn around due to wake boats and pontoons docked there. Did a sweet 180 passing very close to other boats and the dock. Then pulled into a gas slip (4) to pickup crew with the finness of seasoned captain, which I am not.

First time out with the TV’s the wind came up as I was getting ready to head in. They definitely saved me. I practiced a few approaches because the docks were empty. I realized I would have to use the furthest outside dock and let the wind push me in. No way I could dock with a head wind because I was by myself. I almost panicked, but pulled back out, took a break, and remembered the videos I watched about docking in the wind. Worked like a charm. The princess (Admiral) is going out for the first time on Thursday. Should be easier.
