You know how you start that job that you thought is going to be really simple and it turns out to be a royal pain in the ass. well I'm halfway through one of those. I thought I would buy an inexpensive TV mount for my 11 year old plasma TV. I thought I measured it but I must be suffering from Alzheimer's as the bracket doesn't quite fit. since the entire mounting bracket from Walmart was only $50 shipped I figured I'd simply make some adjustments. Four metal plates later and one drill bit toast and here is the result. now all I need to do is mount the wall bracket... I wonder what I'll find when I go to do that? It's ugly, but if you are looking behind my tv....f off!!!!

I can fully relate. I started a simple re grout job in the master bath that turned into a total remodel of it.

Sorry, I'm sitting here laughing. It hits too close to home. I'm convinced that there is a conspiracy.
They tell us it's some kind of standard spacing, yet no two are exactly alike!

I bought two TVs for my girls. Same exact unit. Two same exact mounts.....one fit.

Retaining the deck... Made the mistake of "wondering" how much better one of the spindles would look if I sanded it down on all four sides. Needless to say I have now been sanding spindles for three days!

I have traveled down this road too many times. My wife used to ask how long do you need to finish before dinner? Standard answer was always something like "give me 15 minutes". Usually it would take at least an hour or two, not including the two trips to the hardware store :(

Yep. Been there done that.

I can totally relate to the sentiment, but the actuality is odd. I've got 4 TV's wall mounted in the house here (up to and including a 65"), and 2 at the shop. Every time I've bought a ~$20-$25 mount off Amazon and I've never had a fitment issue. Maybe just lucky.

Happens to me daily!

I'm guessing your tv is over the weight limit for your bracket.... That's why it wasn't wide enough.

Nope....not over its weight limit...just 11 years old and not a standard mounting pattern.

All the new TVs I've bought have been easy to mount...this old plasma....not so easy....but I guess the challenge is fun...that is what I keep telling myself!!!

Oddly enough, this has never occurred to me... it must just be you Julian!! o_Oo_O

Sounds like an excuse to buy a new TV @Julian ;)
Buying a new TV is what got me into this situation....the trickle down from the old Family Room 50" Plasma....moving to hang in the porch after it was replaced by the 65" Sony....

happens to all of us. Nice rigging though.
make sure you use a stud finder...

@Julian water under the bridge now but I always use monoprice.com for mounts. If you are patient and will wait for shipping I've found they're a better deal than big box stores or just as cheap without sales tax. X10 for hdmi cables.

Yep they're excellent! Highly highly recommend them. https://www.parts-express.com Is pretty solid too. I have purchased from both to build out my home theater and family room tv upgrade once we took the leap and gave away our armoire and went from 34" wide/flatscreen crt to 55" lcd and I needed another wall mount above the fireplace.

Job isn't done right unless I'm bleeding when I'm done. 9 times out of 10 if I'm not bleeding when I'm done the repair will not work and I'll have to fix it again. My whole family is convinced of this so much so that they will be waiting with sharp objects to poke me with before I finish anything. Such love..........

@Julian ....... I'm sorry. I saw your thread title and just knew you had stolen "my story" ....... LOL !
However, glad it all worked out in the end. Have a better week, Mikey Lulejian
