Where to install permanent 120V female outlet?

I have a NOCO genius GCP1 that came with the dual station charger. But I am not sure where I can/should install it! I was thinking underneath the launch chair on the starboard side, but I am thinking that might be inconvenient to plug in and out. Then I though maybe next to the fuel port, so it looks like I have a plug in hybrid boat, but then that might be a fire hazard.

Any suggestions ?

the hybrid facade looks cool if you ask me!

i've had mine mounted near the fuel port for a couple years because the mooring flap makes for easy access. i considered the fire hazard possibility but realized: 1) the batteries are in the same vicinity of the filler hose from the factory and it hasn't blown up; 2) fumes could potentially pass from the engine compartment to the battery area via the hole for the filler hose and it hasn't blown up; 3) when i plug in, the gas cap is on and it hasn't blown up.

the only part of the install i've thought twice about is it coupling above the filler hose within the "gunwale" ...just seal the junction with electrical tape and forget about it.
 
I know fresh and salt water are very different in this regard, but, I would mount it inside the boat away from the elements and water.

I was pondering putting one in the port side swim deck behind the seat storage compartment. Could then leave the extension cord in there too, and when I am covering the boat in the slip and forget to pull it out, it won't be hard to get to. My last boat had it where Swatski has his...worked ok until I began pulling my boat bow into a slip on the starboard side all the time.

For now I just have the cord dumped in the battery compartment.

Yeah, I took a chance with mine, my dry slip is still being built so not sure what I'll do.
But I would not worry about the vicinity to the fuel cap, or the fuel vent, as reaching vapor concentrations necessary to ignite is vanishingly unlikely on the outside the hull.

I wanted mine to be inside the boat, so mounted it next to the table leg mount. This is also close to my charger.

@eticket I like that idea, but I typically plug the cord in the last thing before leaving the boat, when it is already covered.

Not to hijack, but I have the same charger as you, just keep moving it as I work on a ballast system, I think it will end up in the engine comp. How large are your rear ballast bags? Are those vented, or just with timers - can you fill them up all the way?
And, a belated :thumbsup: for posting you 2x xc1410 w/8 DB651 install! Isn't it a magic combo? Exactly what I'm doing, just adding a powered sub to the mix, and done.

I'm glad you haven't blown up yet, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. Here are some things to keep in mind:

1. The filler hose does not vent into the battery compartment AND we don't typically disconnect and connect the battery cables (which can create a spark). But this power cord would be connected/disconnected often and is more opportunity to cause a spark and it would be very close to the fuel tank vent.
2. Fumes directly from the fuel tank are stronger than fumes in the engine compartment which get even weaker after passing through a hole to the battery compartment.
3. The fuel cap may be on , but the VENT for the fuel tank is right next to it and it is always open and venting fumes directly from the fuel tank.

The concern is not so much that electrical cables are near fumes, but rather it is the potential to create a spark where concentrated fumes are present. Next to the gas cap is the fuel tank VENT and a spark happens when you plug or unplug a live extension cord. Also, this is 120v, but the batteries are 12v. Higher voltage allows sparks to jump further. In a situation like this, you can minimize the potential for sparks near the fuel vent by plugging an UN-POWERED extension cord into the boat end FIRST and then plug the other end into the shore power outlet (which is further away) SECOND. Yes, fumes in the outside air dissipate quickly, but I would still want to minimize the risk because its not just an "ooops oh well" moment if it goes bad.

Good reminder indeed, and that is my SOP.

One thing about the fume vent, the new(er) boats all have an EPA canister and vapor recovery system which (actually) seems to work. Re-positioning the canister inside the rear hull compartment, I was struck by the strong smell of fumes coming out of the vent hose when I (temporarily) disconnected the canister. On the other hand, I can not smell anything ones that thing is re-installed.

@swatski , I have stock 212X bags, not sure of the size but they do fit with the charger there. Although I have to admit we rarely use the bags as we are still gaining skills behind the boat (and my cooler lives in there most of the time).

I chose the inside location for my plug since I had a wet slip and did not want to risk the extension cord falling out and into the water. I suppose you can solve for that with a tether too.

Thanks for the nod on the stereo upgrade, I give credit to others on this site for the idea and I confirm it makes a huge difference for a small cost.

I'm thinking you use it for a grill or table.

I have some ideas of putting a couple on my transom / swim platform area...

Launch Chair....Is That Like An Ejection Seat????
 
@tim h , that's the stock table mount from Yamaha. The table leg can be used for a grill as many on the site have done. Likely you can buy as spare parts or maybe right from the manufacturer.
