Ok so all yall with blue LED's on your boat made me spend some more money..

I bought three waterproof LED lights that output 600Lumens each..

Question is where to mount them.. I am thinking one on the rear above the scupper drain facing out , and one on either side facing down by the tow rings..

Thoughts?

That is were I put mine.

great now I have LED envy...

I just plugged these up to a 12V converter I have in my office and damn near blinded myself..

That is a cool shot @andy07sx230ho ... Table Rock is a clear lake, for the most part, but has a greenish tint to it. I would like to do something like that but I'm afraid that it wouldn't show up as good as they would in the ocean.

@Jim Robeson , Thanks, now I need a really good shot while underway, maybe this years Bimini trip. Lake Murray here in South Carolina in not very clear and I don't get the same visual effect as in the crystal clear water of Bimini but it is still nice to have them while swimming at night.

Quick question for you guys with the big Lumens, do these lights have to be submerged to stay cool or can you run them above the waterline too?

My coastalnightlights leds, http://www.coastalnightlights.com/ can be out of the water and on for up to about 15 minutes without issue, but I'm not sure I want to test it. They also sell these leds in a spreader setup, http://www.coastalnightlights.com/styles-LEDspreaders.html , which has a fined heat sink on the back of the case.

Oh my.....yes, I like those. I just put that on the short list. I want to swap out the halogens on my lightbar - they suck way too much juice. I was thinking about a long LED bar from Rigid, like I have on my RZR4, but I don't think it would look very good on a boat. :sour:

so has anyone had problems with law enforcement and led lighting? I know on the Ohio River and Lake Cumberland you can not have any lights other than navigation lights on while under way or they will use that as a reason to stop and ticket you.

On Lake Murray I have not been stopped or know of anyone that has been stopped because of having their underwater LEDs on while navigating. It does seem each enforcement agency has their own ideas about the legitimacy of having underwater LEDs on while navigating.

Let us not forget the incredible Light Mftr in Texas using HIGH-OUTPUT CREE LED chips.
I don't have time to look this up, but a member here write about them within the last 2 weeks.

VERY VERY impressive underwater lights. Extremely large bright pattern - Far stronger than all others.
Best Wishes, Mikey Lulejian

I haveta go install another mod on Miss B'Haven and then have to go erect a tent at my Church, but I'll try and post something later, if y'all can wait.

@andy07sx230ho ,

Andy,

Not to hi-jack thread, but I notice your transducer in the pic. I just ordered my raymarine and looking at best spot so as not to lose depth while underway. Some have installed and have that issue.

That transducer is the factory depth finder transducer. Sorry I'm no help on your raymarine transducer install. I bet @Bruce could help, hit him up.

"THE" great CREE-based LED underwater light company ............

The following came from this thread, just a few short weeks ago:

https://jetboaters.net/threads/led-pic-where-to-mount-this-joker.5291/#post-90917
Enjoy this ...........

I have EDITTED this on 4-29-3015:
"First of all, I wanted to THANK @@TN888 for starting this thread and bringing this light to our attention.
Many of y'all will not "get" the importance of this light. My suggestion is to Google "CREE" LED lights. CREE is a North Carolina-based company who actually makes the LED light "chips" used in this, and other products & lights.
http://creebulb.com/
The light output from a CREE chip is totally unbelievable. I now have flash lights using these chips and they will cause serious retina damage if you look "into" the light beam when turned on. The light output is VERY VERY strong.

The light @@TN888 references above can be found here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/GREEN-LED-B...EDs-/251802002922?vxp=mtr&hash=item3aa091a5ea

OR:

http://www.boatpluglight.com/

These are not "Cheap" underwater lights. From all I have seen they may be the best underwater lights currently being sold. Period.
The company Yamaha uses to sell underwater lights does NOT employ CREE LED chips.
To better understand "light output" ........ simply .........
Comparing standard underwater LED lights to the Royale Diablo CREE LED lights is like comparing a Yugo 4-banger motor from the 1990's to a current Mercedes AMG V8.
Really. There is THAT much difference.

Based on what I have seen today, I am buying a pair of these and adding them to what I already have, knowing these will blow away what we have now.
But it's too much trouble to remove what we have.

I am suggesting you consider using this QUALITY of Underwater light, due to how it is manufactured, but more importantly, due to the fact that it uses CREE L.E.D. chips.
These lights need to be mounted properly on the transom, and not in some drain hole.

Thanks again, Great thread. I hope this has helped others understand the importance of now knowing about these incredible Underwater lights !

By the way, we just purchased some standard light socket outdoor light bulbs (from eBAY) using CREE LED chips for lighting outdoors. Relatively high powered output and VERY low power usage. If you're interested,I paid like $2.39 per lamp, and each has 24 CREE L.E.D. chips inside. Can't wait to see how bright these are.

I suggest you avoid their Home Depot CREE lights for $10 + .... They can be found a LOT cheaper on eBAY.

Hoping this has helped others and many Best Wishes your way, Mikey Lulejian, out here in the sticks on Lake Oconee, GA"

Mounting a big light in your transom drain plug is just asking for BAD problems. The chip may be good but the idea is not. Surface mounting is a more secure and permanent way to do an underwater light.

Okay I have the AR210 and installed LED's a month or so ago.

Here are some pics and also something to consider. I used painters tape to mark about where the water line is while anchored. I did this by going back and looking at pics. After marking, I drilled my holes. Scariest thing I've ever done. But here's the weird thing. Starboard side was no issue. However the port side I seemed to luck out. But on the inside of port side there is a ledge and I skimmed the top of it drilling the hole for my wire. Had I gone any lower I'm not sure where the wire would have gone.
