Which is more important fogging or flushing with antfreeze.

Obviously, if we're to flush and then fog, all the antifreeze would get washed out by the cooling water needed to fog the engines while running. But, won't running the engines to flush the cooling system with antifreeze burn off the fogging oil????

I'm in north eastern maryland, so winter temps will often go below freezing and stay there for a week at a time.

My old boat had FWC I/O s so I would fog and then pour antifreeze thru the heat exchagers and out drives, did not need to run to flush.

Fogging. The engines are self draining.

I typically start and rev the engines several times until water no longer blows out, then fog and tuck away for the winter. I was nervous the first year after previously having an IO, but it's how these motors are set up.

Fogging for sure. Yamaha gives information on how to fog. No where will you see information from Yamaha on how to apply anti freeze. It is nit needed if you properly blow out the engines.

I think many of the guys with closed loop cooling systems like those found in some seadoo based boats are more likely to use antifreeze during winterization bit as previously stated YJB engines are self draining but I Still blow them out before storing the boat.

And after you blow them out? Come back in a few hours and do it again, because you didn't get it all the first time as you will see. Guaranteed. Make it a two step (I do three) process to make sure you get it all out. And no, you have no need for the hose hook up an any of these water blow outs 1) because it defeats the purpose and 2) the engines aren't running long enough to do any harm.

So the plan for tomorrow, add the Stabil, motor over to fuel dock, fill the tank, drive it like I stole it for 10-15, to mix the stabilizer, and disribute thru fuel system. Go back to pull out dock, remove air filters and fog the engines.

Get pulled out, put on work rack. Fire it up and rev it a couple times. Do some cleaning, and remove everything thats not staying onthe boat. Fire up rev afew more times, change the oil, open the no damp, put on the cover, call it a season.

Imho it would be better to blow the water out of the exhaust several times. Then fog. If you fog first, you would be burning off the fogging oil when you fire up the engines to blow out the water.

I found that I get the most oil output if I change it first, after the boat has sat for a while. It takes a little longer to prime the pump, but most of the oil is then in the reservoir. Then running the engines after gets fresh oil circulated for the winter.

I've never winterized my boat. I do my jet ski but not the boat. But I randomly take my boat out during the random warm days fishing. Are y'all talking about fogging through the air intake? Ive only sprayed fogging oil in each cylinder after the motor was drained of water

I live in Florida, so I have no idea how to properly fog these engines. But, I can vouch for the above posts that it takes multiple attempts to empty the water out of the system. I usually rev mine up pretty good when I get home, but usually only for a 20 seconds or so... once. I had to replace my scupper this week, which requires removing the muffler/waterbox. I was astounded at how much water was still in the thing! I'll be doing two or three "blowout" sessions next time, at much higher revs (the neighbors will get over it) to blast all that out.

I personaly do not fog, I start my boat once a month for a few minutes. Works for me.

Some information/idea for people who do fog.
I asked the dealer mechanic what his method was for fogging. Mechanic said he pulls the fuel rail and injectors, then sprays right into each cylinder. I think he may have used a custom long hose.

I thought it was an interesting approach.

This is my first time winterizing...After blowing out existing water by running it a few times, I was planning to flush with antifreeze while fogging. Is that an option? Made a contraption to feed anti-freeze into flush ports.

I plan on flushing with antifreeze while I fog this year. My buddy @MarkB is coming over to get his done too. With two people it should make fogging and flushing at the same time a piece of cake. I will also be plugging both our boats into my laptop and getting a YDS readout. If anyone else wants to join us Thursday afternoon for this winterization party you are welcome. The temp dips below freezing on Friday here in SE MN.

Sorry I forgot to answer your questions. If I had to do just one I would choose fogging and make sure I Rev all the water out of my engines several times on different inclines to be sure the water is gone. My boat will sit until May and I think protecting the engine with fogging is the most important.

I have read a couple of posts on the other board where a Crack in the engine developed from not properly getting all the water out. The antifreeze is cheap insurance. If done properly you should be able to get all the water out though.

Bought a '10 AR240 this summer. Enjoyed the heck out of it. Put 3o hrs on it in 2 months. My boy really loved it-13 yrs old. He did all the driving. I barely got to drive it but that's okay...did the winterization myself to save a few bucks. Was tempted to have dealer do it but on a HS teacher's salary...

Fogged the engines and flushed w/ anti-freeze at the same time. Used about a gallon of anti-freeze on each engine. Went okay as far as I can tell...Can't wait for next season!! Hard putting her away...

I just did the same thing. Fogging and flushing at the same time is the way to go. You just need a helper to gravity feed the antifreeze. I am guessing your boy helped. My boy is a little young yet so I recruited a friend who also had a jetboat and we did both of our boats one after the other.

My dealer said spraying fogging oil,through the intake is the worst thing to do. Over time it gums it up. If you want to spray it in pull the plugs and do it that way. I was told to add marvel mystery oil to the fuel and that will fog the engine.
