Well, the wife signed up for a free week long vacation through Farmers Ins. while we were at the boat show and she was the big winner. She has been looking into the whole thing figuring out what's included and what's not and where we can go and what's to do in certain areas. She has said something about going to the western side of FL and taking the boat(kinda surprised me with that one seeing she's not really on board with a trip to Bimini). Normally we boat on a the Rock River the Mississippi and have been up to Torch Lake in MI a few times so I'm used to the whole fresh water scene. I'm up for taking the boat anywhere but I would like to get some recommendations for other places to go with the boat to see if there are resorts in the area that are on the list. We're in no hurry because we have 12 months to book the vacation the way she explained it to me. So if you have been to a great spot please let me know so I can check it out.

Destin!

Great time to win a trip. Hope you can put it off until the zombies are gone and we're released from our bedroom exile.

We have 12 months to book the trip within 12 months of booking so in all we could possibly go in 24 months. I don’t think the DW is going to wait that long.

I would recommend the Tampa/St Pete/Clearwater area if you bring the boat or not! Great places to stay all along the Suncoast, nice boat ramps, lots of white pristine sand to enjoy. If you are bringing the boat great keys to explore everywhere from up Anclote, Honeymoon, 3 Rooker, down to Egmont, Anna Maria, Jewfish. As far as staying at a resort tons up in Clearwater, a couple of nice ones out on Anna Maria Island. If you are bring the boat make sure you check for parking, I think there are a couple resorts that have dock space while you are staying. Also buy a salt away kit for your daily flush.
My only warning is if you come down here, especially if it is during those long hard Illinois winters you will never want to leave ;) . The boating is great, people are nice and the weather is fantastic! Good luck and congrats!

Still haven’t booked anything yet. I’m up for the gulf coast but the wife doesn’t think we need to drag the boat down that far twice this upcoming season(going to Bimini). Now she’s thinking of doing a trip to Universal or something like that. We’ve still got a few months to book something so not too big of a hurry.

@Babin Farms , congrats on winning the trip. I think I understand your wife’s reluctance / lack of enthusiasm on the Bimini trip. It’s one thing to stay close to shore or inland and quite another to boat on the fringe of the Bermuda Triangle on a trip where fuel consumption and places to get fuel or major considerations.

House Boat on Lake Powell is where I would go for a week or Vegas/Lake Mead to Lake Lake Havasu within a day’s or a night’s tow (12 to 18 hours each way) from NorCal. I’m guessing Florida is a lot closer to you. I’ve always heard good things about the intercostal waterway, Naples, St. Petersberg and really enjoyed South Beach and Boco Raton on Spring Breakonce twice upon a time, a long time ago.

If you're taking the boat. I really really enjoyed our TN Mountain vacation in '19. Douglas Lake was very scenic, and Gatlinburg has some sight seeing as well if you've never been there.

If you're not taking the boat then I would be torn between the Caribbean somewhere (We really enjoyed Jamaica before the lockdown this year), or an Alaskan cruise.

Not sure if this is on your list , but we were ready to pull the trigger on this place last year to take the boat. Marina right next to the rooms (at least the ones we were going to book). They also have trailer parking and a boat ramp on the resort which not all resorts with Marinas do around there. The beach and boating opportunities in that area are fantastic.
