Never been and we're headed to Destin this summer and wondering if it would be worth towing the boat 1700 miles total down there? I figure an extra $200 or less in fuel, but towing will make the drive a little longer not being able to go 85 and pass a lot. If I don't tow it down there, we'll be renting the boat (pontoon) for just 1 day to go around Crab Island. If I do take it down there, i would say we'd take it out 2, maybe 3 times. Feels like a $400 rental would be easier, but I love our boat. And we go out on it every weekend anyways.

I personally would not tow that far if you're only spending a day or so on a boat. If your entire trip was dedicated to boating and exploring the coast I might would consider differently.

I agree with Ramblin Wreck. I towed my boat 330 miles once and it made that 5.5 hour drive feel like much much longer. I can't imagine towing 1,700 miles. Plus you will be dipping your boat in to salt water, and you will have to worry about parking/security while there.

Yeah, just typing the details I talked myself out of it. Showing off the rig at crab island was about the only motivator. Now I have to decide if im gonna tow my golf cart. Probably the same decision.

Where are you staying? The golf cart may be worth it. I was down there last year and wished I would of had mine. People were everywhere on them.

I would totally do it for 3 times on the water. For only one day, a rental would be a lot easier. Although, I typically tow about 3k miles each summer, so maybe I'm more apt to haul the boat than most people.
