I'm still pre boat (building a home, move in about a month away), but am trying to understand boat mileage. We currently do our boating on a jetski here in Florida and find ourselves on multiple sand bars or just cruising a spring fed river. I'm not looking for huge mileage, but do want to know what I'm looking at.

Any input?

In my 242 I get 1-ish mpg in chop, 3 mpg on glass.

I have the 195. I get (according to the computer) ~3.5 mpg tops at cruise (24-26 mph) and ~2 mpg at WOT (52 mph). This is in flat conditions which is most likely what you'll see on the rivers. I don't usually go out if I'm going to get knocked around so I can't speak to rougher conditions.

Welcome Aboard @ScubaMike.

What model of Yamaha are you considering? Fuel efficiency ranges from perhaps 1.7 MPG peak on an old two stroke to 3.5 MPG peak on 23 and 24 foot models to 4.5 MPG peak on a 190.

The best source of fuel mileage information is from BoatTest.com reviews. If you look at the model specific forums I have links to most of the reviews.

Here is a screen shot from boat test on a 2015 SX 240.
The top line shows stats for wot and the second line shows the stats for best cruising speed.

Plotted my data from this past weekend. Roughly 70 miles of mixed speeds, some WOT, some cruise at 8k, some idling. Used just over 20 gallons.
