Does anyone know the difference in part numbers?

For example: My boat says it needs oil filter number: 5GH-13440-20-00.

Apparently this part number has been replaced by 5-GH-13440-50-00. The oil change kit for the MR1 motors has a 5-GH-13440-20-22 oil filter number.

I searched the internet and there are many theories such as the last couple numbers dictate where it was manufactured (japan vs. Thailand vs. US, etc...) to the length of the filter in milometers, to other theories.

Does anyone know for sure? I want to make sure i end up with the correct oil filters

I'll be curious to hear the answer to this....and to confirm the filter specs for a 21' boat! I've had this as a gap in the FAQ for a while (and spark plug info for the 21' boats).

I ordered the 5GH-13440-50-00 oil filter last year (and again this year but haven't installed them) and they fit just fine on mine and it should be the same engine as yours.

As for spark plugs I bought CR9EB NGK Plugs since that's the number that matched what was on the ones that I pulled last summer to get a number that I could search/order from. Not sure what others would match from different brands, but you can use that number to cross reference others.

As for the model numbers the ones with a 'L' in there are the CA emission boats, so you are right in your assumption.

Funny this comes up. Last week I went to the local Yamaha shop to buy two new oil filters. I gave them the year and model of my boat and the guy looked it up. As he's walking back to get the filters, he looks at the more experienced employee and asks "20 or 30?" She responds 30. I wondered what that was about. The previous oil filters on my boat are 5GH-13440-20, but now they sold me the 5GH-13440-30. No idea the difference, but they appear to be the same size.

Does anyone know the difference? I'm wondering if the 5gh-13440-30 is compatible with the 2015 AR240

After looking at the OEM parts website it saying I need a 69J-13440-03-00
I wonder how this filter is different from the 5gh-13440-30

@Julian I used what you already had on the FAQ for the MR1 engines. Everything worked because I actually went with one of the alternate filters instead of the Yamaha one. I went with the K&N filter.

That's what I've been using for years with zero problems. :winkingthumbsup"

Well the filters are definitely different. The 69J-13440-03-00 is much bigger. Double the price as well.
The Ar240 2015 high output uses the 69J-13440-03-00...

Not sure if this helps or adds more confusion. 2010-2014 1.8 motors use yamaha filter# 69J-13440-01. The same motors that are in the 2015 AR240.

Same here and the K&Ns have a nut welded to the top of the filter making them much easier to remove.

Anyone know the diameter of the 69J-13440-01 ? I want to get the oil filter socket...

65. 14. I have the metal socket type from Oreilys size 65/14. If you get one there it will be Gray in color.

I'm going to muddy this up a bit more... My 2008 212X has 5GH-13440-20 filters on it. Knowing the previous owners to be the kind of guys that would never do their own oil change, I am going to assume that a dealer did it and put in the right one. After looking up the K&N part number, this is a KN-204. The 5GH-13440-30 references to a KN-303. According to the specs on K&N's site, the KN-303 is 1mm fatter and 10 mm taller than the KN-204. To me, that means more room for more filter material inside, so that's what I'll be getting. If it helps anyone at all, my friend did the same lookup on whatever came with 2015 SX240 and it cross-references to the KN-303, so I suspect the newer 2015 engines are coming with the 5GH-13340-30 filters. This may already be listed in here in a round-about way, but I lost track.

GREAT DEALS FOR YAMAHA OIL FILTERS:

The value and quality of K&N racing-quality filters has already been established.
Now for GOOD DEALS on these:
They are found @ Amazon, by looking at "other sellers".

For the MR-1 motors, you need a K&N-303 Filter.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000E2CVIS/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

Several sellers, NO minimum order size, free shipping, and only $ 10.20 each.

For the 1.8 L Motors:
You need a K&N HP-1002 Performance Wrench-Off Oil Filter

Look here: Select the 2nd seller, not Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000C3XDB8/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new
$ 11.44 each, free shipping, no sales tax, and no minimum purchase.

Hoping this helps many people. I myself have purchased the HP-1002 filter from KOTSEMOWORLD, this 2nd-listed seller on Amazon.
Very pleased with quality, and fast shipping times.

Best Wishes, Mikey Lulejian - Lake Oconee, GA
