I'm looking to purchase my first jet boat 2018 or 2019.

How do I negotiate and what is a reasonable discount ?

I live near Illinois-wisconsin boarder.

TIA

Watch e-bay, that's the best deals I have seen on new boats. (closeouts)

You typically don't with Yamaha's, a lot of the time the price is, pretty much the price. That said, you should wait for the boat show pricing (about $3500.00 off). If you're near me (Milwaukee), I would suggest heading up to Winnebagoland in Oshkosh if you don't have options down there in Flatlanderville. You could go to skipperbuds, but why? The just started selling Yamaha's about 2 years ago, Winnabagoland has been selling them for 30 years. Just ordered my 2019 212x from them.

I'm up in Menomonee Falls and bought mine from Winnebagoland also. Went to Skipper bud and didn't like the guys arrogance.

Agreed. Bought my last boat at Buds, last time I ever stepped foot in there.

I'm not familiar with Yamaha or your area but as with any motorsport sale you can also think beyond the cost of the purchase if they don't like moving much from MSRP. The boat show pricing suggestion was also a good one, timing is key (end of year winter purchase?). Besides boat price, there are other levers to play with. i.e. negotiate a discount on big ticket add-ons and/or accessories, or maintenance or extended warranties. On my purchase I got a free break-in inspection/maintenance (over $400) and some accessories, I also had a trade-in at the time and that is another one we moved the big levers on. They usually have more flexibility with other items besides the price of the boat. Just some thoughts...

I’ll third for Team Winnebagoland in Oshkosh. They gave me a killer deal on my 2018 and they are storing it for me and holding the note so I don’t have to make payments until I pick it up next spring. About $5000 off MSRP, not sure if they have any 18’s left though. Great bunch of folks there I’d recommend to anyone.

They have one 2018 212x left (black & green), my cousin bought the other one and I went with the 2019. They also have a really nice 2019 AR240 (white and blue) that we almost bought for a great price but the wife didn't want to tow and launch that thing all the time, kids are too small to help at this point. They do have a smokin AR210 that's decked out for a good price, it is one of their mechanics boat. I got a deal that I was happy with and they were as well. That's all I was asking for was a "fair" deal. I also got about $5k off. I know new Yamaha's don't move much on price so I felt the deal was acceptable.

I purchased my 2014 from Nielsen's in Lake Villa. Skipper Buds wasn't selling Yamaha yet, and being in Waukesha, Lake Villa was a little closer than Oshkosh.

I was very happy with the sales staff, although I'm not a tough sell, knew what I wanted ahead of time. I bought the boat in February so got 2k off MsRP for the boat show price. I do my own maintenance, so never been back for any service. Nielsen's also sponsors the Shelbyville gathering in July every year.

Didn't love paying the Illinois sales tax though.....

I'm not an expert by any stretch, so this is just my experience and 2 cents.... Just picked up a 2019 White/Blue 242 LSE a couple weeks ago for 72750 OTD (incl tax, head installed, mooring cover, fees, etc.). Was a reasonable discount off the 70999 MSRP they are going for stock here in MI. Quick and perhaps irrelevant side note - through this process, I learned Chaparral jet boats (Vortex) go by NAP pricing, so what you see is what you get on the boat itself. Not much negotiating to be had. Yamaha's are MSRP, so I was able to work with my dealers on boat price for what I finally purchased.

Assuming you're not buying cash in full and have top tier credit, best thing I can recommend from my recent experience is come pre-approved for whatever financing you're comfortable with if you are financing, knowing how much you are comfortable putting down. You can shop financing with multiple hard pulls on your credit within, say, a weeks time, with no adverse hit on your credit since the agencies see this and know you're shopping credit for a single purchase. Approval and rate is usually good for 30 days so you can bounce between a couple dealers to see which sales manager ultimately wants your business more. Plus having your own financing instead of going with dealer/manufacturer promo rate(s) allows you to take advantage of cash rebate or add'l warranty options.

Also, knowing what "new" '18s are/were most recently selling for and if any dealers have them in stock will help determine a decent range you might be able to get to on a '19. 242 LSE 18's in MI were going for 60999 at the fall boat show, so I targeted mid to upper 60's stock on a 2019 and worked with the dealer on margins for options like head+install and mooring cover or other accessories as there is generally some wiggle room here from what I have seen. I walked in willing to go with an 18 since I had that option in my area, if the dealers could not get to where I was comfortable on a 19. The first dealer I worked with had no 18's, but a competitor did, so this of course helped a little with the first dealer. Ultimately however, the first dealer's sales mgr was stuck a little higher than I wanted on my OTD pricing and the second dealer I worked with was slightly more motivated.

You said this is your first jet boat so I don't know if you've either sold or are trading in a propped boat. Obviously private sale on this should get you best price, but more effort on your part, whereas trading in is more convenient and can allow for some flexibility on what the dealer is willing to give you there (especially if they already sell that brand) if they aren't willing to come down as much as you'd like on the new boat price. Hopefully some of this info from my experience helps, and good luck on your purchase!

I'm looking at buying an AR210 from them either at the show in Oshkosh, or closer to spring. May I ask what the $5k off was due to? Just a good deal, or were they running a special? I looked over the mechanic's boat, but I didn't like the tower speakers, and all things considered, for what I was looking for, I wasn't looking to spend the money for all the add-ons. I agree, it IS a nice boat, but just not the deal for me.

Can I also ask, what was included with your purchase? I've already got some stuff from another boat, and I also have a close family friend @ Fort Fremont that I'd rather throw money at for additional items, so I'm really gonna just be looking at the boat and a cover. Like yourself, I'll be storing it outside during the 2 nice months of the year here, and indoor storage for winter.

The price was an early "boat show" special and a "good deal", (also a referral, my cousin bought as well) it wasn't quite $5k, but was about as much as you're gonna get. The package deals at the show are open to be tailored to what you need and don't. I had fenders so I didn't choose those and a few other things on the "gold" package. I had a couple small things thrown in, nothing crazy, but little things I would have added on but they threw them in. The AR210's are nice, we originally wanted one of those, but I was in a position to go for the 212x. So that was that. That blue is killer on the 210's.
They have a 2017 AR210 with 10 hours on it. So, that's a possible option unless you want the 2019's.
I know they make the Freemont run a couple times a year, might join them this summer for that. Give Troy a call, nice guy, down to earth, not a bullshitter.
Otherwise, we need to get a few of us together this summer and hit a lake.

I just picked up my new AR240 and paid 53200 out the door from Alex in Woodbridge va. He is awesome to work with. 58 acres of boats. Holly acres marine inc.

Well, I picked up a 2019 AR210 at the Milwaukee show. I have a bit of a unique situation that was solved by the salesman, which was the reason I went ahead with the purchase now rather than waiting for the show in Oshkosh. I got the 2 extra years of YES coverage and the mooring cover, delivery and walkthrough @ Skipper Bud's in Pewaukee, then free transport to the Oshkosh location, along with free indoor storage for the upcoming season and inside cold storage for winter at Skipper Bud's in Oshkosh. Paid $46k for the blue (can't lie, I dig the color, that sold me over the deals that Winnebagoland had on the Service Tech's boat and the 2018 212X). It's on order and should be delivered February-ish.

Well congrats. Any deal you walk away feeling good about is a good deal in my book. I'm considering wrapping my 2019, 212x in that blue to match the blue stripe and tower. We'll see.

Not feeling dynamite about it, but I've got some probate and permit issues to deal with, that should be finalized within the time frame of the free storage offer. Without that being thrown in, I could have easily waited for the show in Oshkosh.

Thanks to the forum, I started off with better fenders and anchors then they would have offered in their overpriced package, and the rest of it I already have oh, so I don't feel I got bent over on that. Lol

Our place in Fremont is right next to the launch, any time you're planning on being in the neighborhood, free parking and a beer or cocktail!

We'll be making the run from Winnebago next summer, I'll let you know what day and we can all hook up. Hopefully it'll be a good turnout.

Thanks for the excellent feedback!
