Yamaha - Prices Paid

The prep fee and fright is $1975. That normal?

242x 69,300 plus TTL $75,919

My F&P was a little less for the LSE, but the X has ballast, etc.. So maybe a little more on prep and possibly freight could be different based on state/location. Just a guess. But sounds pretty good overall for a (i assume 2019) boat that msrp's at 77k!

2919

lol. Those 2919 still are very faulty in the flux capacitor bilge pump so there's that.

In any case, that sounds like one heck of deal, no? I thought 2019 242x started at 75K prior to all the extra fees and taxes and what not. Care to share your secret?

Bought 2 new Yamahas in the past decade.
Need to buy, when they are not selling.
Need to be working with more than one dealership (you have options).
Need to be working with the dealership owner, not the sales guy. (owners have different incentives besides cash).
Need to have hard cash (or equivalent) and offer an all-in deal (I don't care how they split it up).

Bought my '16 242X (MSRP 72,999, i think), in Nov (Virginia).
70K, all-in. Taxes, tags, deluxe cover, anchor, 2 years YES (bought in Nov, they didn't register with Yamaha until Jan boat show warranty special. Got extra year.), and 6 months of 10% discount for accessories/supplies.
Handed the owner the check and made it his decision to take or not.
Had bought my previous Yamaha in NJ because they were more motivated. (My local dealer could get the business, or lose it again...)

For my previous boat, I found one of the highest volume Yamaha dealerships on the East coast, in NJ. (they have the best discounting rate from OEM). Got negotiating with the owner in May, June,... but he held most of the cards (prime selling season.). Was literally driving to NY (native home) the 4th of July wknd and when the family stopped on the NJ Turnpike, I realized we were just a few miles from this dealership. I called the owner and told him if he did X price, I'd be at his dealership in 15 minutes to pay and take the boat. I didn't know then (but do now!) that for NY/NJ, his boat sales largely stop after the 4th of July. He became a motivated seller after the 4th b/c he saw most remaining boats as a storage PIA for the coming Winter. He sold it at my price. It took 3 hours to prep before we could leave, but we had a boat to play with for the 4th of july wknd.

(Yes, I know working with the owner often cuts out the sales guy, "..., and those guys/gals have to eat." They can, just not with my money. Sorry. It's a zero-sum game and I'm unashamedly biased for my team/family.) Now NEVER hose over the service manager. That guy you will need in the future! ;-)

Agreed. I've always liked the old Godfather addage- "It's not personal. It's strictly business."

Got my 2019 AR190 out the door cheaper than the 2018. Love the 2019 layout and changes over the 2018. It's all about willing to walk out the door. If they want your business they will work with you. Research your dealerships as they all offer different incentives on top of the Yamaha Boat show deals, etc. Mine included Coast Guard kit, two years maintenance free (up to $1500), 50% off any addons I wanted the day of purchase (which included the sexy new Yamaha cover, ropes, fenders, jackets, etc.) for 34k out the door. Base boat & trailer was $29.1k. Hope that helps and congrats on your choice.

Numbers are different, but I got my 2015 in January of 2016 from River Valley in MN, came across them on eBay. Basically took about 7k off the sticker, 55k I believe. And drove it to my door (700 miles) for free and 4 years of YES warranty. Plus I got 3.99% financing for 60 months (180 month term).

As said above, buy when they don't need to sell, thats why the boat shows are in the winter. I recommend last years model for best price.

Wow, I had not realized there is half of a 195 between then AR240 and 242 limited!!!! ($20K) That's a big difference. Some interesting choices to be made for new buyers!

Looks like 2018 vs 2019 24's, so not great comparison

Correct this was at the Charleston boat show today. The 2018 had a larger discount since it was a left over. The new reverse buckets look legit I’m curious how the will perform. The price on the 2018 Left over was pretty good.

Can you tell me the dealer in NJ you bought this from? Thanks

Best I can remember it was Bay Harbor Motors, on Staten Island.
When I bought my first boat in NJ, I was able to deal with the owner, directly-
When I tried to do that again in '15 (for '16 boat), the sales team told me he was no longer doing direct engagement with customers. Not sure if they were telling me the truth or not. I did not get a great offer from them the last time.
Thankfully, since my local dealer did not want to lose another deal to another dealer, and I could deal directly with the owner, I got the deal I wanted, in my hometown, (even though I did not actually have a competing offer; he thought I did).
