Anybody know what size the square drive bolt/screw is that holds the gas tank cover down? it looks a tad smaller than 1/4" so i will have to purchase a drive that fits this.

A flat blade screwdriver will fit diagonally, just be aware whatever these bolts screw into seems to fail easily on the older boats.

@Bob Lentz The Bit you need is a #4 square bit. Set the bit with a small hammer into the bolt head and take your time getting them out. Yamaha used a thread sealer that does not like to move. Do not use an impact wrench. I used a 3/8" socket, and worked them like I was cutting threads. Back them off a little and then tighten back up, back them off a little more, tighten etc. Setting the bit helps the longevity of the bit and the integrity of the bolt head. All of mine came out without breaking or stripping the bolt or bit. cleaned off the thread sealer and reused all bolts. Good Luck.

Unfortunately, with the age of your boat it is likely you will be snapping the bolts.

I had 3 snap on mine. Some one suggested heating them up with a soldering iron. It may loosen the loctite or whatever they used on them.

Thanks everyone for great tips - I had to drill all 13 of em out. Next, vice grips.... Pain in the butt.
