Yamaha's New Steering Patent

I am interested to see how they overcome the heaviness in the steering at high speeds and how the attach this rudder to a 190/192 model.

I think that rudder will be out of the water on plane would it not?

Pretty close but still enough to get feedback from the water.
 
@RobA I don't think it would be, based on the diagrams it sits lower than the thruster jets.
 
These boats draw 6 inches of water on plane. The lowest point of the boat is the keel. I think most of the rudder will be in the water if the rudder is on the center line of the boat. From the images I see from the patent office, they appear to have a rudder that is a flat plate like ours that pivots left and right by way of a second steering cable. The lowest portion is a protective plate to prevent damage to the rudder and then just an inch or so up from there, there appears to be a vertical rudder which would be in the water all the time.

@JetBoatPilot if the keel makes a big difference perhaps you can come out with bolt on or perhaps glue on keel for those of us that like our older boats?
 
Based on @Murf'n'surf link, they've extended the keel by 2 or 3 inches. I'm not excited.
 
I learned after buying a '12 242, and a '10 Porsche Cayman, the next generation of a vehicle is usually pretty dang slick. However, in the case of my Yamaha so far new editions are just nice to have, not an OMG I have to have a new one! Unlike the Gen 3 Cayman S.... That's an OMG I have to have one, well maybe a C7 Z06 Vette....
