Was doing the 10hr maintaince greasing the bearings in the pump and the zerk fitting broke off leaving the threads in the housing. First one went ok but the second fitting would not come off no matter what I tried. I loosened the two halfs, removed the hose from the pump nothing worked. After 45min it just snapped off. The zerk still won't come out of the fitting at my bench.

So now figuring out what to do. Does anyone know what size the zerk is? Seems like 8mm is better fit then 5/16 but there isn't a metric removal tool.

Edit: Would something like this work https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/p...se-fitting-repair-tool-for-1-4-in-28-fittings

Man, I am sorry that happened. I had the hardest time with my grease gun fitting on those zerks too. I could barely get the grease gun on and off. Is there a special fitting to avoid these issues in the future?

I've always used this technique to remove my gun. Maybe you could put the broken end in a vice and try again?

Thanks I did find a fitting that had a pressure release which seemed like it could help in the future.

That was the last move I did which snapped it off lol. I think the fitting totally seized up and won't release. I just need to figure out what size the zerk on the housing is now. I'm going to try a removal tool.

Ah I see. Might be best to remove the fitting and measure? I'd assume the fitting would be metric considering it's a yamaha.

Regarding removal of the broken zerk, would just a screw driver or a properly sized drill work?

I could remove the good zerk but I'd rather not mess with it. Google is telling me most Yamaha products use a 6mm or 8mm 1 thread pitch. Going to see how the 8mm works out.

The problem with removing the broken one is space, super tight back there. No room for a drill unless i used one of those flexable extensions. I have a couple ideas one being the removal tool and the other jamming a small file in there to try and back it out. Didn't think about the screw driver might actually be easy with that, thanks!

Anyway once I get it figured out I will post back incase someone else falls victim to this.

I misread the post thinking of trailer bearings for some reason...
But now I recall having a similar issue greasing those intermediate bearings a couple of times - the grease gun hard to pull off of the zerk! I did not realize there is a reason for it.

Hope it's an easy fix for you, keep us posted.

For removing the broken fitting I use this, Craftsman 10-Piece Screw Extractor Sets 009-66196, the smallest one may fit into the broken fitting. Take the new fitting with you and try fitting it into the hole of the new one. If not look for a smaller size. Look in the auto parts stores. They sell many sizes.

Thanks. Actually got it out today was very easy. I bought 3 different "easy out" type tools but the first one I tried (here) with a T-handle worked great. The zerk wasn't tight at all.

try tapping in a very small torx bit inside the broken end of the fitting and unscrew it slowly

Zerk fitting is a 6mm x 1 with a 8mm hex. Used this to get the broken zerk out but it was very loose so just about anything would have worked. The grease gun fitting stuck on the now broken zerk was the hardest/most frustrating part of the job.

M O S T grease gun ends can be tightened and loosened so try unscrewing the outer part of the end and see if the part comes out, if you look the end had small lined on it for gripping the outer shell and tightening or loosening it

Did that. It doesn't completely come apart but it's supposed to release the death grip which it did not. The picture is at my work bench after trying to remove the broken zerk with one end in a vice and the other with vice grips. It just seized up, Chinese junk.

When I did my 10 hour my grease gun wouldn't come off either. I started to sweat and swear bent over into that engine. Then I read the fine print on the grease gun and it said to angle the gun to the side as you pull on the applicator and voila! Off it came. I shudder to think what would have happened had I just forced it. Sorry to hear about that.
