That's the same answer I got from an Allstate agent here in Pa as well.

You may not be comfortable with Allstate. I am comfortable with the company but less so with your agent.

As for the email I would point out that US teritorial waters only extend 12 nautical miles from the coast and the policy provides coverage for 100 nautical miles from the coast so there is no limitation to US territory. Furthermore the policy explicitly states by “is within the United States or Canada or within 100 nautical miles”.

I have not found any other exclusions within the policy and the “or within 100 nautical miles” clearly allows for use outside the US.

Hvae you looked into SkiSafe? Not sure if they cover bahamas but their rate was 40% cheaper than everyone else.

I have a pretty good rate with my current company but i want to be covered in the bahamas just incase. Still looking for the coverage. Waiting on state farm at the moment. Ill check into them next..

I have Chubb and we spoke with the underwriters today. The standard policy does not cover Bimini or the Bahamas; however a rider can be added and it doesn't cost any extra for the coverage. deductible changes from 1% to 2% while in the Bahamas though. Hunt over.

Boatus.com usually gives best rates. I have replacement at $50k and only paying $380 per year.

I am trying to figure out my insurance for the up coming year. I currently have progressive and have been treated well by them but they do not cover the bahamas. So i have to wade through the mess and see what i can find. Boatus gave me a quote of over $800 per year. But it says it is only for usa territorial waters. The bahamas would be extra. (Progressive was around $500). Sea insure (sea tow) refused to give me a quote due to a one time clain under $800 while having insurance with progressive for 6 years. Next i am going to try state farm and allstate to see what they offer.

Heres my question since i am insurance illiterate... is there a way i can keep progressive but find another company to write a temp policy for bahamas??

Any insite from the great minds on this web site would be greatly appreciated.
PM please to see why they quoted you so high? I used to be a commercial adjuster so well versed in this. What kind of coverage you trying to get? Always remember too that it's like a car it's covered pretty much anywhere regardless what they are telling you. Kinda like personal property being covered anywhere in the world.

State farm will be my new coverage... their wording is.... they will cover 75 miles off the coast and specifically cover the waters recognized as bahamian waters up to the 75 mile limit from the florida coast.

Hey @bronze_10 I went with state farm for the same reason, Bimini 2013 . its not just their statement on 75 miles out, that changes with the foreign waters . their policy will have a rider, its a fs-### or something. it states Bimini directly. You all set on towboat or usboat for towing or even road assistant?

p.s.: that missed call on your phone was my number *5016

I believe BoatUS is now Geico which resulted in rate and coverage changes.

You have nothing to lose by checking with Foremost:

On a similar note, I dare anybody who is planning a Bimini trip to call their insurance company and tell them that you're taking your boat to the Bahamas and you want to know about some "What if" scenarios. Like, what if I have to abandon ship and leave the boat to drift away in the Gulf Stream. It won't be an easy conversation to have, and it will give you an indication of how your insurance company will handle your worst case scenario. Foremost said that I have to make every effort to save/recover the boat. The conversation fell apart when I asked them for examples of "every effort" when I'm floating in the Gulf Stream 30 miles off-shore, a storm is coming in, and my only ride (a boat in my crossing group) out of the situation is about to leave me behind. The conversation quickly went sideways, toward them thinking that I put myself and my boat into a situation of excessive risk, and they were starting to think that the policy might not cover the what if scenario.
It's just something to keep in mind.

Seeing this I need to probably shop mine. I'm at $885 per year on mine right now.

Needed to update my insurance coverage to add the marina as an additional interest, thought I'd take the time to do a little shopping as well. Checked out SkiSafe after a few recommendations here - with a 60K agreed value and 300K liability, my premiums are $379, compared to $976 with GEICO. Worth a call if you're insurance shopping.

I pay 330/year with state farm. Valued at $24000 for the boat. I’d have to check liability.

Its my only pilicy with state farm. For the bimini coverage

Progressive, based on value.
07 Ar230 HO $23,000 and
91 Beneteau First 35s5 $38,000
Paying $399 for both.

I'm calling around tomorrow I'm paying in that $900 range I think as well. @justason did you have to add the Bahamas to State farm or was it included. @bronze_10 what other companies covered the Bahamas?
