OEM cover bled onto vinyl - how can I correct?!?

Need some assistance here. Had my boat at a shop to deal with an overheating issue. It was there for 6 weeks and sat out in the FL sun with the OEM black cover on. Our boat is always in covered storage.

As you can see from the below (zoom in), the vinyl seat cushion tops, and bolsters are now discolored. You can even see where the straps were!



Does anyone have a know remedy for this? We tried pretty much every suggested that Google had as well as all the vinyl cleaners I had (marine and auto). Tried applying with a brush, tried a magic eraser, no improvement whatsoever!! Even tried a little bit of bleach (rinsed well afterwards).

I am supposed to be trading in the boat tomorrow, and it didn’t look this way in the photos I previously shared. Was going to let is sit uncovered in the morning sun and see if that makes any difference.

For comparison this is what it looked like a week before I dropped the boat off for the service. Ago

Not to my knowledge. The cover doesn’t look stained.

It is not bleeding. We had the same damage on our 07 AR230. Some say to expose it to the sun, but that did not help us. Was evident in areas where the canvas cover(s) made contact with the seat vinyl, on top of the seatbacks only. This was already evident when we bought her in 2016 at 9 years of age. The boat was originally from Virginia and came with only the grey mooring cover. The orange sunbrella covers we had made were new for the 2017 season.

@zipper - Did you have any luck with removing the discoloration? One of the links you provided mentioned it was sun damage, but if that was the case, I would think that it would be on the tops of all of my seats. The discoloration is only evident in areas where the cover was in close proximity to the vinyl; the tops of the captain/co-captain seats are fine.

No, it did not happen on the captain chair or other seating forward in the cockpit. Like yours, only where the mooring cover was in contact with the vinyl. Most likely UV damage from hot sunny weather. Wife, a canvas maker, says it is a chemical reaction between the canvas and vinyl.

Great article. Not necessarily a solution, but a better understanding of what most likely occurred - exposure to temperature in excess of 150F.

I also had a small tear forming in a seam on the cover so I used some fabric glue/cement a few years ago, it’s worked like a charm. Yesterday I noticed that much of that melted and transferred to the neighboring fiberglass - which has never occurred before. Further demonstration the cover and boat got baked!

Will leave the boat uncovered this morning and see if it lightens up any!
