Welp, this weekend I finally forgot to disconnect the trailer brake safety cable... I've been so careful over these last five years to turn my backup cam on and double check, but I was in a rush on Saturday to disconnect.

I did catch it pulling out and was able to reverse the truck asap, so it doesn't appear that I actually activated the brake. The cable came out a little bit, maybe an inch or so. The "tab" underneath the coupler where, according to the manufacturer, is the tell for the brake being stuck on, moves freely.

Posting this here to get some feedback on if I should be OK. I haven't had a chance to hook back up and try it.

I did the exact same thing a few years ago when I was in a rush, mine looks like yours except pulled a little further out sometimes. I did the screwdriver thing underneath before hooking up again. Part of the yellow on mine comes out sometimes but everything with the braking still works normally so I haven’t done anything about it.

As long as the you can depress the tab to release the brakes or it moves in and out freely, you should be good to go. You can order the little clip that holds the cable in.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was thinking.

You could probably make one of these with a regular washer too
