10 hour service is complete, well almost as I need to pick up some anti seize for the plugs. I extracted 4 qts from engine and filled with 4 qts Yamalube and Yamaha/Denso oil fittee. The oil filter was installed by a gorilla from the factory!! No reason for it to be as tight as it was. Can't believe Yamaha even lists a torque spec for the filter lol. Pumped about 26 pumps of grease in my bearing housing even though for my gun it would have been 29.5 pumps for 1.18 oz of grease. It was getting hard to push the handle so I didn't want to go any further to risk damaging the seal. Feels good doing it myself even if I sweated out like 2 gallons :D. At least I saved money, got to know my boat more and know it's done right and with care. Now if only the damn weather would cooperate this weekend I could get to the lake but Mother Nature ain't having it.

BTW my water pressure at my house isn't the strongest and it never has been. I noticed when I was at the gulf and flushed the place I used had a fresh water well and it was much stronger pressure. When my boat was running at the gulf well I would get water coming out of the pissers but at my home it wasn't enough to get water flowing out of them. Had plenty coming out the rear of the boat though. Alarm never went off so I assume it was sufficient enough water to cool it. Anyone else not get water from the pissers while flushing at their home?

We are on well water at home but I always have a few seconds before the pissers start working. Maybe 10-15 seconds before they start showing. Is your water pressure really that low?

I would think that it will still fill up the cooling system and start showing out of the pissers. It works fine on the water --- right?

I also completed my 10 hour service yesterday. The filter was extremely tight. Water didn't start flowing a little out the pisser until around 5 minutes but it was coming out the back so no worries. Thanks to all who have posted about servicing our boats. It made it a breeze. No reason anyone should pay to have this done. Worst part is waiting for the oil to come out. It's worse than watching paint dry. @haknslash When you check your spark plugs, are you going to reapply thread sealant to the ignition coil bolts?

May I also suggest dielectric grease on the coil/spark plug connection.

Yea my water is crap here. I let it run for about 5 minutes or so to warm the oil and no water from pissers. My pressure washer is a bear to get primed because of the weak pressure.

Congrats on getting it done yourself!!! I just changed my oil earlier in the week and sweated buckets, it takes awhile to suck out the oil while having half your body in a warm engine compartment.

Am I missing something? I used the long extractor tube and sat in my captains chair with a Corona in my hand. I layer the engine compartment and deck with puppy pads and go for it.

Congratulations! Great feeling, isn't it?

I have a huge oil extractor, with the MR-1's I learned a trick a long time ago that if you poke around in the oil tank you can find a hole that allows you to get more oil out which requires me to hold the tube the whole time, but I get 3 quarts out of it. So between the size of the extractor, the length of the tube, and the honey hole I have to hang out in the engine bay times two engines.

That's what I was missing @AZDANSX230HO = MR1 vs 1.8L.

I bought the smaller extractor kit from my local Yamaha dealer which has about a 3ft extractor hose... that and I just don't try that hard. lol
4 out, 4 in, change the oil filter... done.
(just me)

I use an Attwood High Speed 5 quart oil extractor and it works like a charm. https://www.amazon.com/Attwood-quart-High-Speed-Change/dp/B00EVIO7YM. They have them at Wal Mart as well.

Sucked it out in like 5 minutes or so. They also make a "Marine" version that is $20 more but it uses the same tank and pump as far as I can tell so I saw no reason to buy the Marine version.

This is what I bought from my local Yamaha dealer.

I have found if the oil is warmed up good it comes out much faster, the last oil change I put the engine in no-wake mode to help warm it up faster, did the trick.

In order to level the boat, I put it on the water. In order to warm the oil, I run around the lake a bit.

So, basically, every outing is just practice for the next oil change. :winkingthumbsup"

Nice, unfortunately the nearest lake to me is 1 1/2 hours away, so it gets done in the driveway and I put a level on the trailer to make sure she is level. The previous owner of this boat I swear probably only changed the oil once if that, I have done two oil changes since I bought it, now the oil is nice and clear like it should be.

Ugh. That does not sound like as much fun. Doable, yes. But not as much fun.

The things we do for our toys...

I feel your pain @AZDANSX230HO

Lower the trailer - ensure the engines are level, crack open a beer --- done! (oh.. I do an oil change too)

Yep, toy maintenance is not the funnest, but I hate paying for it to be done when I can do it myself for much less.

I need to do the beer thing, unfortunately I have my 5:00 PM rule, don't drink before that, don't now why, guess I feel guilty having a drink any earlier.
