In my seemingly endless search for a new yammie I have recently begun to think about options other than the 230 HO. Assuming the same price, is a 10 year newer boat worth loosing the twin engines and rear living room/swim deck? Open to suggestions or what your favorite thing about each boat is.

ps. Space is not a concern at the moment, there is 2 1/2 of us normally

½?

No location on your profile, so it is more difficult to give you input on this. Where will you be boating?

The larger boat will be more stabile in chop and bigger water. The smaller boat more appropriate for rivers, lakes.

Not having twins means less gas consumed, but you also don't have a 'backup' engine. Also not as maneuverable.

As to the cabin, sure the 19 will be fine for 2.5 of you. In part it depends how long you will be keeping it. Right now you may bring out 2-4 friends and it still may be ok. When the 0.5 becomes 2 and the families you hang with become 4ish, that boat will become small very fast. So for a few years you will probably be fine. But if you are buying it with 10 year financing as your forever boat, it may not be a good fit for you.

Other factor is the year. Big difference in the age of the two boats. Don't recall big issues with either, but that bears checking. Even without known issues, the older one will have rusted clamps and little maintenance things like that more than the 15.

Ha ha ha....no doubt the Power of the Twins! Who cares if it is an older model? As you know, mine looks almost brand new and it is an 08!

I prefer the sx but they’ve been impossible to find in good condition for less than 26-29k in the northeast. That’s too much for me

It is too much. I bought my 2007 SX230HO new for 36K and that was too much, since even paying cash for a boat is just the down payment. There are repairs, storage, upgrades, etc. But, I definitely favor twin engines.

So just found out one of the boats I was told had sold last week is still available. Just about ran out of the house! 2.5 hr trip to Long Island to check out a 09 232

So boat looks decent on topside. Hull has some chips and a lot of dock rub. How bad is gelcoat to repair?

[USERGROUP=9]@HELP[/USERGROUP] So far I am not favorably impressed. What about the engines?

It’s a little salt worn as far as clips and tube clamps go. Wasn’t in the water so did not get to drive. Said they wouldn’t put it in without deposit and appointment. At least he only wanted $100 and it’s refundable

Ask him what the white wire run across the back is for. The one zip tied to the blower tubes in the engine pic. Does it have the original scupper or is it stainless steel? Like the seadeck!

A quick visual of the 3 photos tells you why it didn't sell. A good rule of thumb. He who keeps the cosmetics pristine, also keeps the mechanicals top notch. And vice versa. Boat looks like a POS which was not cared for. Run, unless the price is an absolute steal, like 12k. To make matters worse, it was clearly a salt water boat. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I doubt this person ever did a flush. Run.

Gelcoat can be patched with a kit from spectrum

It looks like he has a water inlet pinched off. Ask him about it. It appears maybe he pinched off that tube and parked it coz engine wouldn’t run. Be wary...

Check oil! Ask him to run each engine on hose for ten minutes. Then check oil again. If he cannot or will not do that, enjoy the ride home.

My thoughts exactly
