1st day out and boat is broken

@Michael Guzzo , congrats on getting back on the water quickly and at almost no financial cost to you.

I'm guessing since no major parts were replaced that the dealer's standard warranty only covers the services performed (I.e., multiple oil changes and installation of a new battery, soon a new Bimini and ladder). So a future engine failure won't be covered if it can't be traced to these services. If this is correct I'd buy the extended warranty whether it is a yes warranty or not. You can't really lose since its refundable if you don't use it.

I got my boat used and paid $40 to transfer the third party warranty that the previous owner purchased when he bought the boat new. The warranty only covered the engines and hull but a year after I bought the boat both oil coolers started to leak and were replaced under warranty so the transfer cost ended up being some of the best money I ever spent since my out of pocket costs were only a $100 deductible and whatever new oil and filters (perishables not covered by the warranty cost) instead $2,500ish for parts and labor.

On a related note, I used to have water drain out the back after every outing sometimes a cup sometimes a lot more. After plugging the anchor drain hole more often than not nothing comes out of the main drain at the end of a day out boating. So if you have water coming out of the main drain at the end of the day I recommend you start by plugging the anchor locker drain first. Second seal the clean out plug tray in the compartment to minimize any water that washes over the swim deck from leaking into the bilge. Finally, make sure that the clamps which hold the clean out plug tubes to the tray are tight, you can tighten them via the access port in the center of the tray and can seal that port with silicone as well to prevent water from leaking through to the bilge.

Again, congrats on getting back on the water. I hope that this experience has made you stronger and smarter, not turned you off to boating and that you never find yourself in this situation again.

I would run the crap out of the boat the next few days to be sure it is ok. Keep a close check on the oil. Also check the air filter to be sure they replaced them. I would also insist that they give you till Monday to accept the offer for the warranty. Otherwise you might find yourself in a hard place if everything that was caused by their negligence was not properly repaired.

The last time I had a leak it was entirely my fault.

I hit a big rock, what can I say...it happens.

I fixed the hole and the boat is dry as a bone. Life goes on.

Another reason to clean your boat by hand often and check from stem to stern.

Happy to report that we had our 1st real boat day yesterday sandbar and island hopping all over Tampa Bay. It was calm as can be and all in all we probably ran the Boat 60-70 miles. No issues with the motors whatsoever.

The only small issue I encountered was with the freshwater shower. I filled it up before we left and made sure it worked. It worked at 1st stop but when I tried to use it at the 2nd stop it no longer did. There is no way we got even close to using all the water. Is it common for this to fail? Also how do I drain the remaining water if it turns out to be broken?

There is a 90 degree fitting near the bottom of the tank, accessible from the seat behind the driver's. If you pull the hose from the barb, you can unscrew the fitting to drain most of the water. I ended up installing some quick connects.

That's awesome @Michael Guzzo. Glad that you're starting to enjoy the boat.

My guess is the fuse blew on the shower pump.

Sorry to hear about the miserable Day 1 experience. I've had a SX230 and currently own a 242 LS. I have never had a leak in either boat.

Here's an informative video on dealing with the cleanout plugs:

What is the fresh water system doing? Does it make any sound at all when you press the button?

Nope @Ronnie . I noticed it made a sound early on when it was working but no sound at all when I flipped the switch after it stopped working.
